Shahid smooches Anushka thrice

Bollywood Trade News Network

Shahid Kapoor could not have asked for more. The star is having a great time with his upcoming film which is being directed by first time director Parmeet Sethi.
Buzz is that Parmeet is making the best use of the good chemistry between Shahid and Anushka Sharma. For this reason he introduced, not one, two but three smooching scenes in the film. Though, this was good news for Shahid but Anushka surely was on the receiving side of this lip lock. As she had to get into extended lip locking sessions, something she does not really like that much.

With Shahid showing his art with lips, let's hope the hot story is part of the final film too in its unedited version.

Romantic Amnesia For Shahid

Poor, dear Shahid Kapoor. Firstly, former flame Kareena Kapoor didn't so much as spare him a glance, when they almost came face to face. Insiders claim that the two exes were rehearsing for an event within the same premises, and when Bebo stepped out, she spotted Shahid from a distance. Ms. Kapoor swiftly looked away and walked past Mr. Kapoor giving him the cold shoulder treatment (pure vegetarian Shahid!).

After KK, Vidya Balan, an earlier love interest of Kapoor too, gifted him a similar treatment. Apparently, the two were Mumbai bound on the same flight from New Delhi. But when they spotted one another Balan looked right through him. And this time Kapoor too pretended as if she didn't exist there. Pity, their 'Kismat' didn't forge a long 'Konnection.'

Shahid Kapoor on award winning spree

Mumbai, Jan 19 (IANS) It hasn't even been a month to the New Year, and Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor has already swept three awards for his performances in 2009.

While he was named the most popular male actor at the STAR Screen awards, Shahid also won the heartthrob of the nation award at the fifth Apsara Film and Television Producers Guild Awards.

The 28-year-old also walked away with the Editor's choice best actor award at the Stardust awards for his portrayal of Guddu and Charlie - the ruffian with the endearing lisp and the simpleton who stammers respectively - in Vishal Bharadwaj's 'Kaminey'.

Last year saw Shahid's transformation from a chocolate hero to an intense actor.

Though his latest release 'Chance Pe Dance' hasn't been able to pull in a lot of audiences, Shahid is looking forward to good times this year. He will be seen in Parmeet Sethi's untitled movie for Yash Raj Films apart from his father, veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor's 'Masoom'.

The Best Dancers in the Movies

For art's sake or fun, dance is easily one of the most vibrant languages of expression. Needless to say, it has greatly influenced Hindi cinema and its undying obsession with musicals and celebratory sequences. And so, even today, the aptitude to romp poses as one of the foremost requirement among an actor's credentials.

Considering the medium's impact on our movies, it's not surprising to notice some of our top stars with extraordinary dancing prowess have essayed a professional performer on celluloid as well.

While in the past the likes of Waheeda Rehman, Madhubala and Vyjyanthimala foot it to perfection in Guide, Mughal-E-Azam and Amrapali respectively, others like Asha Parekh, Hema Malini, Sudha Chandran and Sridevi set the stage on fire with some hot-stepping action in Caravan, Abhinetri, Naache Mayuri and Chaalbaaz.

The men aren't far behind either. If Mithun Chakravarthy demonstrated some inspiring footwork in Disco Dancer and Dance Dance, Govinda channeled the Michael Jackson within with his free-styled moves in Street Dancer.

On that note, here's a look at Bollywood actors playing reel-time dancers in recent times.

Shahid Kapoor, Chance Pe Dance

After working with director Ken Ghosh on Ishq Vishk and Fida, Shahid collaborates again to work on Chance Pe Dance, a young musical featuring him as an aspiring actor struggling to make it big in Bollywood.

Meanwhile in order to make some living, he starts giving dance lessons to a bunch of difficult kids.

Now that mustn't have been too difficult for the Kaminey star. It might be recalled how he used to do something along the same lines in Shiamak Davar Institute for the Performing Arts.

'Chance Pe Dance' title was cheesy: Shahid Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor says he loved being part of 'Chance Pe Dance', but feels that the title of the film is "cheesy".

"We were looking for a title for the film for a very long time. There was this one title we wanted, which was 'Yahoo', but because the rights lie with yahoo we couldn't really get that.

"So, one day I got a message from Ken (Ghosh) asking how is 'Chance Pe Dance'? I said cheesy but we really don't have an option so let's go ahead with it. However, I've loved being a part of the film and I've enjoyed the process thoroughly," Shahid told reporters here.

The actor, who was in the Capital with co-star Genelia D'Souza and director Ken Ghosh to support the 'Chance Pe Dance' collaboration with Fanta, launched a special edition bottle to promote the film.

Talking about the importance of promoting a film in the present times, Shahid told us: "All kinds of films are made and its very important to promote them correctly and make the audiences understand what they are coming to watch."

"Obviously, the product that you are making and its quality is important but on the other hand, how you market it and what perception you create is something that also needs attention," he added.

Releasing Jan 15, 'Chance Pe Dance' revolves around a talented young struggling actor Sameer (Shahid). Juggling with various jobs while waiting to get his big break in movies, he meets a choreographer, Tina (Genelia D'Souza). And what happens after that is what the film all about.

'Shahid has learnt how to play the game'

Shahid Kapoor's latest film Chance Pe Dance has quite a few instances from his own life, especially his struggling years. The film also captures his terrific dance moves perfectly.

The Shahid showcase is directed by Ken Ghosh, who has known the actor for about 10 years -- from the time they did their debuts together with Ishq Vishk. Since then, Ken has only worked with Shahid. Chance Pe Dance is Ken's third film after the ill-fated Fida.

Ken tells Patcy N what to expect from Chance Pe Dance, which releases on January 15.

Shahid Kapoor has been a part of all your three films. Why do you work only with him?

Post Fida, Shahid and I kept planning to make another film. We locked onto this topic just before Shahid left to shoot for Kismat Konnection. Normally, the story comes first and then the cast. But in this case, it was the other way round. I fleshed out the story and turned it into a script when he was away.

I did not plan on working only with Shahid; that's just a coincidence. Before I start a film, three things need to be in order: the script, the cast and the budget. Somehow, all these things fall into place only with Shahid.

Is the film about dance or a struggling actor?

We had already decided to make the hero a good dancer. Then we expanded on it and made the story about a guy from Delhi who goes to Mumbai to become an actor.

Struggling days difficult yet memorable: Shahid

Shahid Kapoor feels his struggling days were difficult -- from renting a number of houses to spending a night in a second hand Maruti 800 to giving 100s of auditions and getting rejected -- yet memorable.

"All these things are a memory. I am very happy and proud of the fact that God has been so kind to me and given me so much. I am glad that I was able to get through all those difficulties in my life," said Shahid, who spent a whole night sitting on the roof and bonnet of a car along with his 'Chance Pe Dance' co-star Genelia D'Souza at the Kamalistan Studios, promoting their movie that releases Jan 15.

At around midnight Wednesday, the duo arrived near the car in T-shirts and track pants.

Vada pao (bun) and tea vendors were present along with 'khatiyas' (string cot) nearby for the audience.

In the film, Shahid plays a struggler who comes to Mumbai to make it big in the movies.

Sources said the activity, which continued till 7 a.m Thursday, was planned as it resembles the lives of those who come to Mumbai to try their luck and also because a scene in the movie depicts it.

Citing a real-life incident when he spent a night in a car during his struggling days, though he had his house and well-settled family in Mumbai, the actor told us: "We always lived in a rented flat and we had to shift from one flat to the other and my family was not in town. Due to some reason we had to leave the flat a day before and I had to spend the night in the car."

I wish Shahid well: Bebo

Kareena Kapoor is one babe who is honest and forthright about it. At least she doesn’t blatantly deny the relationship (like some of our beauties often do), or pretend that jab they met nothing really ever happened.

That’s the cool Kapoor gal for you. Recently during an exclusive interview with ZOOM, when she was asked if she’s in touch with Shahid Kapoor, without appearing even faintly unnerved by the question, she said, “No, we are not in touch. Shahid and I shared a wonderful relationship in the past, the least we can do is wish each other well. At least I know I do that from my side.” Bebo is such a darlin’, no? We see one head nodding already.

My role in 'Paathshala' is just about 30-40 minutes: Shahid Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor's 'Paathshala', which has been ready for the last one year, will finally hit screens next year and the actor says his role is substantial even though it is not long enough.

"'Paathshala' is small in comparison to some other films that I am doing. Moreover, I not a quintessential hero in the film. However, it isn't as if I have a special appearance in the film, as has been speculated by some. I have a substantial role that lasts for 30-40 minutes in the film," Shahid, who had two releases -- 'Kaminey' and 'Dil Bole Hadippa' this year --, told us.

'Paathshala' was earlier being co-produced by choreographer-turned-filmmaker Ahmed Khan with Big Pictures. However, as per current developments, Eros International would be presenting the film.

The first look of the film was revealed a year ago with 'Karzzzz'. It was expected that the film would release in January 2009, but it continued to move ahead. Directed by award-winning Marathi film director Milind Ukey, 'Paatshala' is expected to release in the first half of 2010.

"Yes, the film moved from Big Pictures to Eros and they would be making plans to line up the film in a proper manner. However, I am sure they would have the right campaign in place for the film's release. The film has to be protected and released when there is no other film of mine coming up," said Shahid, who plays a teacher in it.

Shahid Kapur and Amrita Rao will go NAKED and NUDE for PETA

Shahid Kapur and Amrita Rao will be seen together in a PETA advert and they’ll be wearing next to nothing to bring out the feel of vegetarianism!

They join the ranks of Pamela Anderson (who posed in a cabbage bikini), Aditi Gowitrikar (who was also covered in leaves) and Sherlyn Chopra (who posed in racy lingerie). Shahid has been a vegetarian since the age of 18 and Amrita Rao also converted to vegetarianism ten years ago.

The campaign will be shot next month and will re-unite the onscreen pair for the first time since Vivaah. They have also been romantically linked in the past but have dismissed the rumours, insisting they are just friends. Yet they are keen on working together as they are comfortable in each other’s company. The advert will feature them wrapped in tomato vines as the look is ‘tomato-and-pepper’. ‘Let Vegetarianism Grown on You’ is the theme of the campaign.

A source said that Shahid was chosen because he was voted the sexiest vegetarian and Amrita Rao is a sexy girl-next-door who promotes vegetarianism. What’s more is that they look good together. He adds that Amrita has already tried the sexy look in Shortkut but she failed. Amrita will wear hot pants and a tube top in the advert. She wants to give it (her sexy avatar) another (vegetarian) shot and the campaign will get people talking about her and she does need some publicity. Shahid will flaunt his chiselled six-pack-abs and it will be his sexiest look since ‘the running with the horses sequence’ in Kaminey.

Shahid is currently in the US and was unavailable for comment while Amrita Rao said that she was looking forward to the campaign which will spread the message of how sexy vegetarianism is.

Shahid’s bums need help!

The actor wears bum bags to accentuate his hips. Unlike actors who are more bothered about their arms or abs or chest, Shahid doesn’t underestimate the power of his derriere. One hears that he always wants his hips look nice and round when he faces the camera.

A bum bag is a small fabric pouch secured with a zipper and worn at the waist fastened with a strap around the hips. It has different names like fanny pack (Canada, US), belt pack (US), belly bag (US), buffalo pouch (US), hip sack (US) and hip pack (UK).

A source says, “Shahid has been wearing bum bags ever since his debut film, Ishq Vishk in 2003.”

Although Shahid has worked really hard to have the perfect physique and has also managed to put on some weight in certain parts, his near-flat backside continues to worry him. “He has been unable to put on weight on his hips. Actually, he has a very lean and boyish structure,” adds the source.

Incidentally, Shahid does not wear bum bags at home. “He arrives on the sets very casually. But, once he enters his vanity van, he makes sure that he wears bum bags in every single shot,” says the source.

Must say we are quite impressed with your quest for perfection, Shahid.

All about bum bags

A fashion designer (name withheld on request) spoke to Mumbai Mirror:
MM: What exactly are bum bags?
FD: These are commonly called butt pads. They are like boxer shorts or panties, which one wears to accentuate the hip area. Models and actors usually use them.
FD: How much can it accentuate one’s hips?
MM: At least three inches for sure.
MM: Whare are they available?
FD: These are freely available in the market. One can get good quality butt bags from abroad. We usually buy them from lingerie shops at Lokhandwala Complex, Andheri.
MM: How do you decide which one to buy?
FD: Once we know whom we are buying it for, there is no problem.
MM: Are they comfortable?
FD: Yeah. The stuffing inside is just like you have in padded bras.
MM: Do men as well as women wear butt bags?
FD: Yes. But, there is no ratio or percentage that can determine which gender uses it more.

Man of the match: Rani Mukerji

There's indulgence and there's overkill. But when it stretches beyond that, it's simply an excessive fest of clichés. In that sense alone, Dil Bole Hadippa ,though not necessarily a bad film, suffers from too many déjà vu-evoking distractions to wholly work.

To begin with, there's Yash Raj Films's stock supply of Punjab .The open-terrace block house looks awfully familiar. Do Veer and Zaara still live here?

And pray, where have I seen those lush, green fields before? What do they grow, quizzes Shahid Kapoor to Sheryln Chopra in one scene. Who cares? They never really provide any food for thought anyway.

Then there's Ik Onkar humming incessantly in the backdrop. Perhaps Surinder Sahni and Taaniji plan to drop in? Also,if you thought you had seen the last of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Bachna Ae Haseeno , etc, etc) tributes, you got another thing coming.

Shahid Kapoor: HADIPPA is a complete contrast to KAMINEY

Even though he has worked in films across varied genres, the lover boy image seems to be stuck around Shahid Kapoor, courtesy his recent successes like KISMAT KONNECTION, JAB WE MET and VIVAAH.
"Even when I was on the verge of signing KAMINEY, people discouraged me. Since on paper itself it sounded such a different film, I was advised that I should follow a conventional route and do more love stories. People felt that I was on a wrong path by signing on something experimental when I should have rather consolidated my image as a lover boy. I am glad I took a firm stand though because I sincerely believe that audiences today want a change", explains Shahid.

He isn't turning his back away from romantic films though.

"They will also continue for sure", he smiles, "Now DIL BOLE HADIPPA is a complete contrast to KAMINEY with a lot of 'bhangra-shangra' and other related stuff. See, at the end of the day, I do want to do different kind of work and find acceptance in all spaces. It's just that I am not willing to restrict myself to a particular genre, especially in the times when change is the order of the day. Thankfully, audiences have become much more receptive to you being seen in a different avatar."

No wonder, in weeks to come, DIL BOLE HADIPPA would be followed by CHANCE PE DANCE.

"It's all fun though crazy situation to be in", says Shahid, "DIL BOLE HADIPPA will release on 18th September and a day after the film's release, I leave for USA. Then soon after I would be back to promote Ken's CHANCE PE DANCE. Meanwhile I am shooting for Parmeet Sethi film with Anushka Sharma. I don't really have time to breathe though honestly, it's a happy problem to be a part of!"

When Shahid sat jobless at home for six months

Mumbai, Sep 2 The success of 'Kaminey' has catapulted him into the big league, but actor Shahid Kapoor says he sat at home for six months without any work after his box office hit 'Vivaah' in 2006.

'The most difficult phase was after 'Vivaah' was a super hit. I was at home for six months without work. I got some 60 film offers but none inspired me,' Shahid told choreographer-director Farah Khan on STAR Plus' chat show 'Tere Mere Beach Mein'.

On the show, the actor spoke of losing his confidence after a spate of failures following his debut 'Ishq Vishk'.

He even shared how apprehensive and nervous he was when he had begun shooting for 'Vivaah', but gained a little confidence after director Sooraj Barjatya gave him a pep talk saying: 'There's only one thing that can take you ahead and that's talent and you have that in you!'

'I was unconvinced and gave one shot, then I saw it on the monitor and I said, 'I've given a perfect shot...I know my work.' After that I used to just focus on my work.'

The episode featuring Shahid will be aired Saturday at 9 p.m.

Rani Mukherjee sheds kilos to re-gain lost appeal

Bollywood actress Rani Mukherjee has shed extra kilos and toned up her body to look the part in her latest film "Dil Bole Hadippa" where she plays a sportsperson. Mukherjee, known for her path-breaking roles within the mould of commercial cinema, is starring opposite Shahid Kappor in the film.

"I'm playing cricket in the movie. So it's my conscious decision. If I have to play a cricketer's character, then I have to look like an athlete. I have to tone my body like how sportsmen kind of tone their bodies while they are on the field. They look really toned. And I think for the role I consciously look like the character," Mukherjee said.

She revealed some of the secrets of her new-found svelte look - a rigorous fitness regime.

"I did yoga and weight training, did a combination of both and that kind of really worked for my body," she said.

The film is set to be released on September 18.
