Good movie needs emotional director: David Dhawan
One of Bollywood's most successful comedy makers directors, David Dhawan, says a filmmaker has to be emotional to make a good movie. He also admits to getting stressed even now before the release of each of his films.
"If you don't know how to cry or laugh, then you can't understand the audience. The goodness has to be within you to come up with something exciting. A good movie should have the right mix of emotions, backed by a powerful script," Dhawan told us.
Dhawan's upcoming 'Do Knot Disturb' is again a light-hearted romantic comedy that stars Govinda, Riteish Deshmukh, Lara Dutta and Sushmita Sen. It is scheduled for a September release.
He is also working on another project titled 'Hook Ya Crook' that stars John Abraham, Kay Kay Menon, Shreyas Talpade and Genelia D'Souza.
After teaming up with stars like Govinda, Anil Kapoor and Salman Khan in several hits, Dhawan now wants to make a movie with animals as protagonists.
"I love animals and I want to make one movie with them. I have always wanted to make a movie with animals, but for that you need a trained animal and lots of patience too," said Dhawan, who used a chimpanzee in 'Aankhen' and a dog in 'Biwi No.1'.
He confesses he was under extreme stress before the release of his first hit, 'Shola Aur Shabnam' (1992).
"I must admit that 'Shola Aur Shabnam' was my last chance to prove myself as a director. I had given a series of flops before the film.... and I had no clue what I would do if the movie would fail at the box-office," said Dhawan.
"When the film was released, I was under extreme pressure and nervous too. My condition was so bad that I was shivering and my wife had to give me brandy to put me to sleep. But when I got a call at 5 a.m. from a film critic who told me that my film in not just good but too good and a hit, I was relieved. After that I never looked back," he added.
After the success of the Govinda-Divya Bharati starrer, Dhawan gave a series of hits like 'Saajan Chale Sasural' and 'Deewana Mastana', 'Biwi No.1', 'Jodi No.1', 'Hero No.1' and 'No Entry'.
But even after so many hits, Dhawan gets nervous before the release of his movies.
"For every film of mine, I'm nervous. I hide myself in the editing room because I have raised the level of people's expectations...What bothers me mostly is whether audience will like my movie or not, whether my movie will make them laugh or not.
"Sometimes you have to outdo your own projects," said the director.
Post-'Shola Aur Shabnam', the Dhawan-Govinda combination was seen as a sure shot success at the ticket window. But the director has also churned out hits with other stars like Anil, Salman and Sanjay Dutt.
Rakhi glams up for a grand sangeet
Preparations for Rakhi Sawant's sangeet are on in full swing. The beautiful bride-to-be, whose show on NDTV Imagine -- Rakhi Ka Swayamvar -- is winding down, is taking care of all aspects to ensure that her sangeet is truly a grand one.
And that is why two of Bollywood's ace designers -- Neeta Lulla and Farah Ali Khan -- have been roped in to dress the bride.
To make the occasion a perfect blend of contemporary and traditional festivities, Lulla has designed an indo-western fish cut lehenga in bright turquoise blue for the sangeet. The corset and the skirt is enhanced with silver and swarovski work.
When one actor isn't enough
Sometimes a character takes more than just one actor.
Sometimes Bollywood likes to stress the passage of time, which is when they get one actor to show a character's youth and another to play his future. With Saif Ali Khan all set to play Rishi Kapoor in Love Aaj Kal, here's a look at some memorable instances of two -- or more -- actors playing the same character.
Saif Ali Khan and Rishi Kapoor as Veer Singh in Love Aaj Kal
Saif Ali Khan plays the younger version of Rishi Kapoor in Imtiaz Ali's film, and this is probably the reason the Chhote Nawab has been looking so much like Kapoor's son Ranbir in the film's promos -- right down to wooing Ranbir's real-life squeeze Deepika -- but visually, it just seems like the actor's trying too hard to look young.

It's make or break time for Saif Ali Khan
Saif Ali Khan is getting the jitters, but is equally confident as 'Love Aaj Kal' is set to test his abilities this Friday.
Without doubt, the expectations from 'Love Aaj Kal' are humungous and this makes actor turned producer Saif Ali Khan anxious. He's got a lot riding on this film, which is predicted to toss him into the industry's Top 3 slot, if luck sides him. "'Love Aaj Kal' gives me very positive vibes. But, trust me, I don't like the number game. We should be our own competition," Saif tells me.
'Love Aaj Kal' has got a near perfect mixture -- hot properties in Saif and Deepika, one of the finest directors in Imtiaz Ali, music that's already set hearts pacing [Pritam] and a story that's rather intriguing. But people are bound to compare it with Imtiaz's 'Jab We Met'.
"It's an unfair comparison. Comparing the two films is like comparing two different people, even though the maker is the same. This film is an individual by itself. Why, Imtiaz even wanted to get rid of the card 'From the director of Jab We Met' in the promos, but I insisted on it," Saif reveals.
Industry watchers predict 'Love Aaj Kal' will be Saif's biggest opener ever, the position earlier held by 'Race'. "It's flattering, but scary. It's like; I'm throwing a party, but am scared too. What if no one shows up? It's so unpredictable these days. See how RACE shocked us all, its opening was mind-boggling," he states.
Let's go back a bit. What made Saif turn producer? "The credit goes to Eros. There was a period when everyone wanted to grow and Eros said they wanted to back my decisions. So they gave me money and we agreed to make two films. Also, eventually, you do like to have a control over your films," he reasons.
Saif also gives complete credit to his producer-partner Dinesh Vijan. "I was merely an actor on the sets, while Dinesh took all production-related calls. Imtiaz too wanted me to be just the actor on his sets, so that I could concentrate. Sure, I was aware of what was going on... [pauses] Dinesh and I think very much alike and we're doing this for the love of films. I could've opted for someone more experienced and prolific, but the wavelength wouldn't have been the same," he admits.
Now that 'Love Aaj Kal' opens this Friday, Saif and Dinesh are ready to move on to their next project -- 'Agent Vinod'. "After that I begin shooting for 'Race 2'," he concludes.
Want a six-pack? Just exercise regularly
Many youngsters dream of a sculpted body, especially after watching Bollywood’s romance icon Shah Rukh Khan flaunt six-pack-abs in 'Om Shanti Om' and versatile actor Aamir Khan in 'Ghajini'. But experts have a word of advice -- exercise regularly and avoid steroids to maintain the look.
"To get six-pack abs is easy but to maintain a chiselled body is the most difficult task. As always, achieving anything is easy but maintaining that is difficult," Bollywood actor-producer Suniel Shetty told us.
"I see a mad rush of people who want to get six-pack abs, but the bottom line is that one should aim to be fit. If you are fit, then you live a healthy life, your confidence level doubles and you feel younger," said the 47-year-old actor.
Suniel, who made his debut with 'Balwaan' in 1992, has a well-toned body and makes it a point to hit the gym every day.
"There are days when I don't feel like working out. But I still go to gym and once I am there, I just can't sit and start gymming. This happens with everyone, but one should not skip the gym," he added.
Among the stars, it was Salman Khan who first got a chiselled body and often flaunted it on screen. Then Shah Rukh got six-pack-abs for 'Om Shanti Om' and Aamir too jumped on to the bandwagon and revealed his well-toned body in 'Ghajini'.
Recently John Abraham further popularised the trend by stripping down to his boxers to flaunt his sculpted body in 'Dostana' without any guilt.
Supermodel-turned-actor Milind Soman, who sports a lean look, says it's not necessary to work out in gyms to have a fit body.
"I'm not a gym person, but I eat well and go for long jogs and that works for me," said Soman, who is also a marathon runner and owns gym-cum-fitness centre Breathe.
"Always do something that you enjoy. To achieve fitness one need not hit the gym. One can always opt for any sport, yoga, jog, swimming and much more. The idea is to do something that not only burns calories but relieves stress as well," said Soman.
Fitness instructor Aamit, who owns Fx Zone gym in Noida, said: "Every day I get queries from young boys about how to achieve six-pack abs and my only answer is that it takes dedication to get them first and after that loads of maintenance in terms of diet and regular exercise to retain it.
"If you stop exercising, within a few days you will lose what you have achieved after working so hard."
Suniel, who is known as a fitness freak among his friends, says that other than regular exercise, people should also concentrate on their diet.
"For me it's breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine like a pauper. I don't avoid any food and I eat as much as I like without stuffing myself. Everyone should follow this rule.
"You don't have to shun junk food completely as one can always cheat on his diet on a weekend. Body too needs change and small good habits help one in the long run."
He also advises people to stay away from steroids because he feels they could have a bad effect.
"One should always stay away from steroids because they don't do any good to your body. To achieve a sculpted body, one has to live a disciplined lifestyle that includes eating right meals, proper sleep and cutting down on carbohydrates and sweets," he said.
Priyanka ko darr kyun lagta hai
Priyanka Kothari -- formerly known as Nisha Kothari -- had to deal with mosquitos and painful mosquito bites when she decided to promote her forcoming film, Agyaat, in a jungle! Of course, it's very tough to actually find a jungle in the city of Mumbai, so she had to be content with a bit of greenary in suburban Andheri.
A horror film, Agyaat will be directed by Ram Gopal Varma, who had earlier directed the actress in his flop film, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag.

'Love Aaj Kal' will be a trendsetter: Deepika Padukone

Producers Aaj Kal
"I think both Saif Ali Khan and Dinesh Vijan have been extremely professional. I couldn't tell for a minute that they are first time producers. They have left no stone unturned. Right from approaching me for the film to the time that we are now ready to showcase our film to the world. Today's producers are more agile and are jack of all. They are young, think new and are far more experienced in the film industry than other independent producers."
Imtiaz Kal
"Having worked with Imtiaz Ali, I can definitely tell that the success of his earlier film 'Jab We Met' hasn't got into him. He hasn't even realised to date how big a film 'Love Aaj Kal' has turned out to be. That's what makes him special. The fact that Imtiaz is here to make good cinema and not be affected by the success or the failure of the film. What makes it even more special is the fact that Imtiaz had signed me for this film before Om Shanti Om had released. That brings in you a lot of confidence."
Imtiaz Aaj
"I would call him a new age director. But he does have sensibilities as an Indian and what the Indian cinema is really about. He has a good balance of both."
The film
"The film is what the title is. Love was the same twenty years back or today. It has never changed. For different people, it might be different things. What's good about this film is that every generation will relate to this film. Like I said, love is a universal language. Everyone experience it at some point in their life. That's the USP of the film. I'm sure people are going to use the same lines that Saif and I have used in 'Love Aaj Kal'. It'll be a trendsetter."
Saif Ali Khan Aaj
"He is one of the most talented actors our film industry has. He is also someone who has brought in a different kind of actor after 'Dil Chahta Hai'. Apart from that, 'Dil Chahta Hai' was the first of its kind of new cinema to venture out of the traditional commercial films being churned out. Saif Ali Khan has also improved his dancing skills (laughs) off late. There isn't any other change except that he has grown a beard and plays a sardar."
Deepika's Love Aaj
"I believe in being loved and being in a beautiful relationship. I've seen my parents in a lovely twenty five years of their marriage and happy together. That's what I've seen all my life. Both together always. I am like that and so is Ranbir. Nothing has changed between me and Ranbir. We've spent a lot of time together and in return we've known each other better. I am comfortable with Ranbir today."
Imran is too young to create problems for me: Sanjay Dutt
Sanjay Dutt feels very charitable towards those who have apparently not been kind to him.
Shrugging off stories of Imran Khan undercutting his role in 'Luck', Sanjay says, "Imran is like a little child. He was very respectful through the two films we've done together. He's a good actor. I wish him luck and I want him to grow into an actor as big as his uncle (Aamir). Imran is too young to create problems for me."
Sanjay says he did 'Luck' for a lark. "I did it just to help Soham Shah. I really didn't have the time or date. I told him to just cast me in a small role which would finish quickly. In fact the role shaped up bigger than planned. As long as it makes some money and no one loses any, I'm happy."
Hours before his birthday Sanjay was chilled out. But he has regrets about not being able to be near Amar Singh on his birthday. "I couldn't even visit Amar Singhji because by the time the visa materialized the surgery was over. My wife Maanyata was there. But I speak to him every day. He's out of the hospital now. He sounds better. I've seen his health deteriorate during the election campaigns. God gave me an opportunity to look after my elder brother during the elections. I'm glad I was around."
But cheering up Sanjay says, "I heard Bunty Walia is coming. Everything he does is announced on Facebook. So he has announced he's coming for my birthday."
Can you gift me my freedom for my birthday: Sanjay Dutt
Mumbai, July 29 On his 50th birthday Wednesday, Bollywood's troubled star Sanjay Dutt says his only wish is to leave his chequered past behind and move ahead as a free man.
'In the last 18 years, I've been fighting for my freedom and I feel the burden of the struggle now. I want to be free,' Sanjay told IANS from Cape Town, South Africa.
'I want to walk into any consulate and get my visa. I want my passport to be with me. I want to visit any country I want. Most important of all I want the court cases to end,' added the actor who battled with drug addiction and was also convicted in the 1993 Mumbai blasts under the arms act.
He says now he wishes for his 'freedom'.

Now, reports are that Shahid's mom Neelima Azim has approached Piggy Chops for a role in her upcoming film. This development comes after Neelima failed to convince his own son to be part of the film.
Neelima Azim's film project has been marred by many delays till date. Initially it was Shahid's refusal to be part of the film. Later she even approached Emraan Hashmi for the lead role but he too refused. Now, with her at latest meeting with Priyanka Chopra, we hope Neelima can break the jinx of finding no stars for her dream project.
Salman is ready for marriage, I'm not: Katrina Kaif
After being termed as the lucky mascot of Bollywood, after having become the face of every possible big brand, after having been voted as the Sexiest Woman for umpteen times, after having graced a million magazine covers, the gorgeous Katrina is the latest cover-girl in this edition of 'People'.
Call this as a 'confession edition' or whatever you may like, but this issue of 'People' is definitely something that can be preserved for ages to come.
As it's in this issue, Katrina clears off all the airs and controversies (read gossip and rumors) that constantly surround her!
To start with, she clarifies her take on Salman being ready for marriage, while she isn't! Other clarifications include the much alleged spark between her and Ranbir on the sets of Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahaani, Salman's latest muse Claudia Ciesla etc.
I'm playing lead role in 'Dhobi Ghaat': Aamir Khan
Bollywood star Aamir Khan, who is on a high after sharing the stage with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, has confirmed that he plays a full-fledged part in his wife Kiran Rao's directorial debut "Dhobi Ghaat".
"The cat is finally out of the bag. I'm playing one of the leads in Kiran's film 'Dhobi Ghaat'," Aamir posted on his blog.
The confirmation came after certain sections of the media began speculating over the length of his role in the film. Earlier it was reported that Aamir is just doing a cameo.
Aamir says the details about his role were kept secret because his wife didn't want to attract unnecessary attention to her film.
"The reason we kept this under wraps is that she didn't want to attract much attention to her film. She wanted to make this film on real locations with a tiny crew, very guerrilla style. So we had to do it very quietly. And for once we managed to keep a secret from the media, at least until we finished the shoot," he wrote.
The 44-year-old actor has also disclosed that the shooting of his much-awaited "3 Idiots" has come to an end. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film is based on Chetan Bhagat's bestseller "Five Point Someone".
"The principal photography on '3 Idiots' is complete. We have one song left which Raju wants to shoot in September. Yesterday, he began work on the post (production). Good god, I'm getting butterflies in my stomach already," wrote Aamir.
Aamir also wrote about his meeting with Clinton, with whom he participated in an education initiative at St. Xaviers' College here last week.
"It was a real pleasure to meet with her (Hillary Clinton). I found Clinton to be an extremely warm and charming person. And she has such sharp and clear thoughts, and expresses herself so well. It was quite a privilege to meet with her," he wrote.
Akshay suggested the title 'Life Partner': Rumy Jaffrey
Director Rumi Jaffrey denies that Akshay Kumar opted out of "Life Partner" due to a "rift" between them and says it was the star who suggested the film's title.
Akshay was supposed play a divorce lawyer who doesn't believe in the institution of marriage, but was unable to feature in the film due to date problems. Eventually the role went to Govinda.
"All these rumours of a rift between Rumi and Akshay are false. Aki couldn't do the film because of date problems and Rumi is absolutely okay with it. Both parted ways amicably," said a source close to the film.
Added Jaffrey: "It is really funny? Abbas bhai, Mustan bhai and I were struggling for a title. It was almost the case of having it under our nose and not able to see it. When we were in conversation with Akshay for the film, he suggested 'Life Partner' as a title and it just stuck. I couldn't believe it. It was as simple. And we all just loved it and couldn't have thought of a better title."
"Life Partner" is about two couples and their journey through their relationships and also stars Geneila D'Souza, Fardeen Khan, Tusshar Kapoor and Prachi Desai.

'Raavana' is very special for Abhishek
All through the year 2009, there have been speculations around Mani Ratnam's Raavana. While there have been talks about the film getting delayed, off late there were also murmurs around Abhishek Bachchan delaying the film further.
"That's far from true though", says a source attached to the film, "Yes, there have been delays due to some reasons or other but why would Abhishek cause any trouble to his own film? He is giving his all to the film and is least responsible for any delay whatsoever."
Though Mani Ratnam was unavailable for comment, it is a known fact that due to the film maker's health reasons, Raavana had to be put on hold for some time. However, now as he back and kicking, the film's shooting has also resumed.
"In any case, for Abhishek Raavana is special for number of reasons", adds the source, "He acknowledges the fact that two films that have got him most critical acclaim in his decade long career are Yuva and Guru. The sense of respect for him as an actor came to him after these two films. Mani Ratnam is an integral part of his film repertoire and he is pushing himself harder for Raavana."
This indeed is true, courtesy the physical challenges that Abhishek has faced for the film. While in Yuva he was asked to put on weight, in case of Raavana he has been instructed to get a slimmer look. "He is enjoying it all though", the source comments.
Well, there is another 'obvious' reason why Abhishek is enjoying shooting for Raavana. He is accompanied by wife Aishwarya Rai in the film. Call it coincidental but Mani factor has played a big role in their association.
Laughs the source, "While in Guru they were dating each other, they are a married couple today and very much in love. This is a special film for Mani, Abhi as well as Ash and they are giving it all to make it an event in spite of all the delays."
Also starring Govinda and Nikhil Dwivedi in key roles, Raavana is supposed to be a modern take on 'Ramayana' with Abhishek in the role of 'Ravana'. However, some sources have negated any similarities. With music by A. R. Rahman, the film could well see an early 2010 release.

Romancing Rajeev Khandelwal
Rajeev Khandelwal's big screen debut, Aamir, didn't have a leading lady. But he's all set to romance a lady in his second movie, Peter Gaya Kaam Se.
The lady in question is Lekha Washington, who is part Maharashtrian, part Burmese and part Italian. Not only is she multi-lingual, she is also multi-talented -- having done theatre, directed documentary films, dabbled as a sculptor, veejaying and hosting the first season of the Indian Premier League. She has also acted in Tamil film Jayam Kondaan and Telugu film, Vedam.
Patcy N spoke to Lekha for more on her Bollywood debut.
Aishwarya Rai becomes older
Aishwarya Rai, the international triple threat: model, beauty queen, and movie star, has taken the Indian film industry and the world by storm by leading many roles. Now for "Action Replay" she will be molded to look like an old woman. Sources say that Hollywood make-up artist were brought in to get the right make up on her face.
Vipul Shah the director of Action Replay says, "Ash did her old age make up with Paul, a Hollywood make-up artist. When we did it the first time, it didn't work out well. When you are doing age make-up, you can't correct it so it had to be removed fully and done again."
He also added that actress shows lot of patience in doing this character, "It took us six hours to got her look right. We started shooting at three in the morning and the shooting went on till 7 a.m.," he said.

'Teree Sang' not a remake of 'Juno': Satish Kaushik
Is director Satish Kaushik's 'Teree Sang' a copy of Hollywood film 'Juno'? It may seem so going by the subject, but the filmmaker and his lead actors insist the film is an absolute original piece of work.
'I don't even think this really requires any justification,' Kaushik told IANS.
'That's because while 'Juno' had released in December 2007, we had already wrapped up a major schedule for 'Teree Sang' by then. How can we be accused of copying a film that wasn't even heard about much till then, let alone being released?' he added.
But Kaushik doesn't deny that he was indeed inspired by a Telugu film that was released a few years ago.
'I had seen this fabulous Telugu movie which again dealt with teenage pregnancy. I wanted the film's rights but couldn't get them. However, the idea stuck with me and I eventually decided to come up with an entirely different tale, though with the germ of teenage pregnancy. In the way it has eventually shaped up, 'Teree Sang' has nothing to do with that Telugu film though,' he said.
A film directed by Jason Reitman, 'Juno' is about a 16-year-old high school girl Juno MacGuff (Ellen Page) who discovers she is pregnant with a child fathered by her friend and long-time admirer Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera). While at first she intends to have an abortion, she changes her mind and plans for the child's adoption.
'That's the very basic point in the plot where our film differs,' said Sheena Shahabadi, the debutante leading lady of the film. 'In 'Juno', the girl was looking for someone to adopt her unborn baby while in 'Teree Sang', the characters played by Ruslaan (Mumtaz) and me decide to live together and raise the child.'
Explaining the film's plot, Sheena said: 'The only similarity between 'Teree Sang' and 'Juno' is teenage pregnancy. In one of their outdoor rendezvous with a bunch of friends, schoolmates Maahi (Sheena) and Kukko (Ruslaan) decide to 'experiment' and end up making love to each other. When Maahi gets pregnant, she decides to give birth to the child. In this journey of hers, she gets complete support from Kukko.
Ruslaan added: 'Well, let aside 'Juno', some idle minds are also comparing 'Teree Sang' with 'Kya Kehna'. Can you beat that? Story about any and every unwed mother can't be 'Kya Kehna', right?
'Come on, that movie was a love triangle between Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan and Chandrachur Singh while 'Teree Sang' is a sweet and simple tale about young parents who decide to be with each other in their tough times. Hence the title 'Teree Sang',' Ruslaan said.
Also starring Sushmita Mukherjee, Rajat Kapoor, Neena Gupta and Satish Kaushik and Anupam Kher in a special appearance, the film has music by Sachin and Jigar with guest compositions by Anu Malek and Bappi Lahiri.
Produced by Bharat Shah, 'Teree Sang' has been acquired by Sony Pictures and will hit theatres Aug 7.

Censor Board objects to a song from RGV's 'Agyaat'
Controversy's favorite child, Ram Gopal Varma, is at in again. This time with the Censor Board asking him to re-edit the track 'Jai Shri Shambhu' from his forthcoming film 'Agyaat'.
The Censor Board has asked RGV to re-edit a portion of the film, which shows the film's lead heroine Priyanka Kothari puffing a chillum while she croons 'Dum Maaro, Yeh Hai Sahara'. The reason given by the Board was that it depicts substance abuse.
Ramu, who is aghast with the turn of events, opined, ''People can take drugs and show in film, that's ok. There is so much discretion on part of censor board. However, as a law abiding citizen of the country, I'll go with whatever the law says.''

Abhishek goes to Kargil...with 'gajar ka halwa'
New Delhi, July 22 Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan travelled all the way to Kargil to pay tribute to the war heroes ahead of Vijay Diwas July 26 armed with 'gajar ka halwa' and 'aam ras' especially made by his wife Aishwarya Rai and mother Jaya Bachchan for the soldiers posted there.
Abhishek also read out a beautiful poem 'Agnipath' written by his grandfather Harivansh Rai Bachchan along with a message from his actor father Amitabh Bachchan.
He visited some of the locations where the Kargil war was fought 10 years back. His entire journey will be shown on NDTV's special show 'Jai Jawan' Saturday at 12 p.m. and Sunday 11.30 a.m. and 9.30 p.m.
The journey to Kargil and Drass is an eight-hour drive. Following the route taken by jawans, Abhishek walked across the Zojilla Pass and even drove for a portion of the journey, meeting soldiers at each point along the way, an NDTV release said.
Abhishek also visited a bunker at Sando top and even tried his hand at firing a few rounds with them at the training centre. He then recounted his experiences while shooting for the movie 'LOC Kargil', which was inspired by the war.

I'm glad to make a comeback with 'Chaasni': Raveena
New Delhi, July 22 National Award winning actress Raveena Tandon wants to do only mature roles in her second innings in films and is excited about playing a lawyer in 'Chaasni'.
'I'm getting to play a lawyer in the film and I'm excited because this is going to be my comeback film,' Raveena, who played an advocate in 2005 gripping drama 'Pehchaan', told IANS in an interview.
The film is being directed by Revathy Sharma and also stars veteran actress Jaya Bachchan, Ayesha Takia and Urvashi Sharma. 'Chaasni' is a remake of the Tamil film 'June R' and stresses the importance of adoption of those who are old. It is Sharma's homage to elderly people.
Raveena, who made her Bollywood debut with 'Patthar Ke Phool' in 1991, is returning to the arc lights after a four-year hiatus with the movie and says she was 'hell nervous' when she gave her first shot for the movie.
'The first day of shooting for 'Chaasni' was very encouraging. I gave my first shot and the entire unit started clapping. I felt like - 'This is where I am meant to be'. I delivered one dialogue in one take and Revathy said 'Okay' and my day was made,' said the actress who took a sabbatical after tying the knot with Anil Thadani in 2004.
Raveena also said that she wishes to do only such roles in her new innings in the industry.
'I'm very glad that I'm making a comeback with the kind of roles that I want to do now - the kind that challenge me more than I can cater to. I do see a lot of scripts, but I'm now inclined to roles like I played in 'Shool', 'Daman' and 'Satta' - something more evolved and something that suits my personality now,' she said.
The actress is also judging kids' comedy show 'Chhote Miyan - Chapter 2' on Colors channel. She enjoys her stint on the small screen, but says that she doesn't wish to sign too many films right now.
'I want to take it (movies) slow. I'm doing one film and one TV show. My kids are quite young and I don't wish to overwork and then not be able to spend time with them. I will take things easy as far as films are concerned because they need more time,' said the mother of two.

Akshay Kumar economizes for Sajid Nadiadwala's 'Housefull'
Since Akshay Kumar pays all his taxes diligently, it is safe and secure to state that his market price is Rs. 30 crores per movie. But he's also aware of the recession around him. Therefore when his wife and child flew in to London to join him earlier this week, Akshay insisted on paying for their air tickets.
Says Akshay, "Sajid is an old friend. And even if he wasn't, I know exactly how difficult it is for a producer to keep the budget in check. During all the years that I've been in the industry, I've observed what a thankless task it is for producers to meet up the demands of the project and the people involved with the project."
Adds a source, "Producer Sajid Nadiadwala insisted it was a very small amount and part of the crew's travel expenses. But Akshay insisted. He won't burden his producer with extra expenditure at all, though he will charge his market price."
Confirming this price, a producer says, "Akshay does charge Rs. 30 crores. No doubt about it. But beyond that there are no extra costs at all. Akshay pays for the expenses that occur during shooting."
In fact our 30-crore hero who has just delivered another success 'Kambakkht Ishq' decided to economize for the same producer when they reunited for another film 'Housefull' in London.
Instead of putting up at the posh St. James Hotel where Amitabh Bachchan and other A-listers from Bollywood stay when shooting in London, Akshay chose the posh but nevertheless far less expensive Hotel Cumberland, although the producer insisted Akshay to stay at the more expensive place.
Says Akshay, "No, I always prefer to stay with the rest of the unit. It always creates a feeling of unity among the crew. In fact my wife and son have just joined me in London. They're staying at Cumberland with me."

No Salman in my directorial debut: Amol Gupte
Amol Gupte has dismissed rumours that Salman Khan will star in his directorial venture 'Sapno Ko Ginte Ginte'. The scriptwriter-director-actor says he is yet to approach an actor for the main lead.
"News like Salman Khan, etc... these are the after-effects of the media. I'm not in talks with anyone as of now but I will soon be talking. As of now I have to freeze my script for 'Sapno Ko Ginte Ginte' and that is my priority," Gupte told us in a telephonic interview from Mumbai.
"Moreover, even when I do so (approach an actor), I'd like to reserve the name of the star to avoid jeopardising my chances of roping him in my film," added Gupte, who will be seen in a negative role in Vishal Bharadwaj's thriller 'Kaminey'.
Gupte, who was earlier directing the critically-acclaimed hit 'Taare Zameen Par' that was about a dyslexic child, lost all credit to actor Aamir Khan, who took over the reins from him and earned rave reviews for making a perfect debut as a director with the film.
Having burnt his finger once after roping in Aamir, a proclaimed perfectionist in the industry, Gupte said: "The word perfectionist is the only word in the dictionary that has bothered me so much. It has been so abused in the industry."
But has he forgiven the actor for his deed?
"There is nothing to forgive about and in fact I'm not in a state to forgive...I just know I have nothing to say about the matter," he said.
Just like 'Taare Zameen Par', "Sapno Ko..." is also a children-oriented film. While the former focussed on dyslexia, the latter is about economic disparities among children.
"It is on children and it has some fabulous child artists who will be superstars. The audience will watch it with open mouths like they watched Darsheel Safary in 'Taare Zameen Par'. It is about inequality and poverty. It is an equally emotional movie with equally lovely songs like 'Taare...'," he said.
He also explained his bent towards such themes.
"The problem is that such children can't fight for themselves... they don't have any support system; nor do they belong to any group. So someone has to speak for them," he said.
Also an actor, painter and musician, Gupte says he believes in having a perfect script before wielding the megaphone.
"It took me five years to write my first film and it has taken me almost two years to work on my second. I make it a point to take time for my scripts and I wouldn't move ahead if I am not happy with it. It has to be perfect on paper first before getting it on the floors," he said.
Gupte plans to release his 'Sapno Ko Ginte Ginte' in 2010.
HC reserves order on Karan Johar's plea
The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court reserved its order on a petition filed by filmmaker Karan Johar seeking quashing of a complaint accusing him of causing insult to national honour over playing of national anthem in one of his movies.
Justice D V Sharma had on July 16 summoned Johar along with the original film 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum' over his petition filed in 2002 but the Bollywood director could not appear in court due to health reasons, his lawyer CS Sinha told the court.
The lawyer also cited security reasons. A complaint was filed against Johar by Pratap Chandra alleging that the scene involving playing of national anthem had violated provisions Section 3 of the Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act of 1971.

Celina Speaks Out in Support of Gay Against a Columnist with a Swing Vote
Smarting at the comments of columnist Shobhaa De in her recent column as well as in a magazine interview Celina Jaitly, addresses De. In her own words.
"As a military attache's grand daughter and the daughter of an army colonel, I have been brought up to not react to the insults made by my elders. I've had the sort of upbringing which makes me reserve my comments against jibes made by someone my grandmother's age.
Having been a Ms india, a Ms Universe runner up, a social activist, a writer, tourism ambassador to Eygpt and an actor who speaks five languages and has travelled the whole of India and the world, I pride myself on my acheivements in the last twenty six years of my life how ever big or small they might be because they were acheived not out of fluttering around as a social butterfly or writing sexually provacative stories. I am the living example of a modern day middle class girl who has done well for herself and stood up for what is right to the entire world and not some diplomatic typical world peace related issues.
I feel, after reading Shobha aunty's last colum that she is taking a neutral stand (against the decision to make homosexuality legal in the county) to keep both sides happy, until the supreme court decision comes through.... and then she will swing to whichever side of the grass is greener.
Sad, I expected much more from her. I guess Ms De lives to put down the film industry no matter what our contribution is. She should know we actors are people of the massses and classes, we see no race and no religion. All we see is how human we can be. No matter what their sexual orientation."
Riya Sen v/s Raima Sen Face off!
We've often heard of cat fights between the two leading ladies of a film, but what happens when 2 sisters are working together in the same film? We are talking of the bong sisters Riya and Raima Sen who will be seen sharing screen space together for the first time in Rituparno Ghosh's 'Noukadubi'. Apparently Rituparno had approached Riya and Raima for the film at the same time and both of them even received the script together. They were offered two very diverse roles and both of them had no qualms playing the characters. However, according to our sources, Riya initially thought Raima's character had a lot more prominence and had much more scope and dimension to it as compared to hers. But being a thorough professional and a doting sister, Riya chose to go ahead with the role she was offered, as it was extremely challenging.
Interestingly, both the actresses are playing roles very contrary to their public image. While Riya Sen is considered to be a sexy siren who can give half the population with the Y chromosome sleepless nights, in this movie she will be seen in a complete de glam avatar! And on the other hand, Raima, who is known for her intelligent and matured roles, will be playing a sophisticated woman.
And what did Raima have to say about her experience working with Riya? "It was nice having to watch her doing such a complex character. She was so easy and comfortable on the sets and with the director. Everyone pampered her silly! This is the first time J've played such a mature character in Ritu Da's film. I play the character of a learned and sophisticated woman who holds her own in any situation. It's quite a contrast from Riya's character who plays a naïve village belle."
On asking about the experience shooting in Kolkata, Riya giggles, "Raima pampered me silly on the sets. Right from organizing the best make up vans and acquainting me with the staff in Kolkata, she was always a phone call away and kept everything prepared for me! Sometimes I felt I was treated like a baby, it felt like my first film!"
And while both sisters are aware of the comparisons that will be drawn, they are more thrilled at the prospect of featuring in the same film, under the able hands of acclaimed director Rituparno Ghosh. We sure can't wait to see the sister duo in action!

Bebo `censors` sexy scene with beau Saif Ali Khan
Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan have reportedly shot an aesthetic love-making sequence in Karan Johar’s Qurbaan that involves more physical exposure and intimacy than perhaps the actress’ censorship instincts allow.
Now, she intends asking director Rensil D’Silva to delete one scene from that sequence in which her bare back is visible.
There is a point beyond which Kareena won’t go for any filmmaker. And ever since Saif and she filmed the sequence, she has been wondering what both sets of parents might think on seeing in. “We are actors and can’t be coy after accepting a film on a bold subject like Qurbaan. I’ve done kissing scenes earlier. But the love-making scene is explicit by my yardstick. It comes at a crucial stage in the narration. And Saif made sure I was comfortable,” said the actress.
Kareena is a favourite of both, the producer and director, and it’s possible that Karan and Rensil might listen to her and have the bare back scene removed. The audience will be the loser. Ah well, there’s always Kambakkth Ishq in case you want to know what Kareena’s back looks like!

The actor is making sure that he gets a good idea of how the patients suffering from the same ailment conduct themselves.
Well, such dedication coming from none other than Hrithik is no news, of course!
Kamal Haasan Watches LUCK With Shruti
On Friday night, the legendary Kamal Haasan watched his beautiful young daughter, Shruti, set the screen on fire in the forthcoming Luck. Shruti has already earned rave reviews for the Jee Le and Aazma Luck song promos that are playing on television.
The special preview of the multi starrer was held in Chennai at director Priyadarsan's studio. It was also attended by Shruti, younger sister Akshara and noted south Indian actress and Haasan's girlfriend, Gautami, among others.
Shruti's mother and veteran actress, Sarika, who is based out of Mumbai, was not present at the trial show. Much to the joy of director Soham Shah, Priyadarsan was seen cheering for Shruti all through. On Saturday, another special preview of the thriller was held at Film City in Mumbai. Bipasha Basu, Arshad Warsi, Celina Jaitly, Rohit Shetty and Mimoh Chakraborty were among those who watched Luck.
'Worrying about TRPs is not my job'
Rajeev Khandelwal has been successful in all his endeavors so far. From television (Kahiin Toh Hoga) to films (Aamir), he's always hit gold. His new serial Sach Ka Saamna promises to be a hit game show, especially with celebrities like Vinod Kambli baring all on the show.
When Rajeev chatted with Rediff readers on Friday, July 17, that was a hit as well. For those who missed the fun, here's what transpired.
Rajeev Khandelwal says, Hi everyone! Here I am. Ready to bare it all.
Usha asked, Well! Your new show really makes one cry as it proceeds.
Rajeev Khandelwal answers, I agree. But the tears are of relief or happiness. Never have I met anyone who's cried because of any pain caused on the show.
aamna asked, Hi rajeev, Your show was very good. But dont you think it will create some problems in participant's personal life?
Rajeev Khandelwal answers, I know it's not easy to answer the truth. And that too in front of millions of people. I do not think speaking the truth will lead to anything negative. In the longer run, the effect should be calming. If not, then it is sad because all our life we are taught to stick to the truth.
shikha asked, hi your new look is good but i think u sud be more chatty wid the participants
Rajeev Khandelwal answers, To be honest, there is not much scope to chat with the participant, because the show gets serious after a while. And I can't be probing or pushing someone into conversations. I will try my level-best though.
dineh asked, If you are on the hot seat of Sach Ka Samnaa then what is chance of your winning Rs1 cr?
Genelia's acting dumb, and she hates it
So far Genelia D'Souza has played girls who have got their acts together and their heads screwed firmly to their shoulders. But that's about to change.
In her next film 'Life Partner', Genelia is cast as a super-dumb broad. And the actress is cringing.
"This chick thinks she knows it all when she's clueless. She doesn't know how dumb she is. She's got loads of money and time and she keeps trying different vocations. For starters she attempts a career in singing and she's a disaster at it."
Playing this scatter-brain was very tough for Genelia. "I'm not the least like this rich pampered clueless chick. And I'd certainly not try my hand at anything I wouldn't succeed in. But this character keeps bumbling from one experience to another. She's a nightmare."
To add to Genelia's woes, her character in Life Partner is hated by one of her favourite actors."Govinda whom I adore detests me in the film. Every time we're together he's snarling and scowling at me. I hated that."
Though there are other lead parts in 'Life Partner', Genelia says she is not worried. "I'm the female protagonist in the ensemble cast."
Wonder where that leaves poor Prachi Desai!
Dia Mirza:The Butterfly Effect
Half a dozen movies in the making and a plethora of off-beat roles, Dia Mirza is all set to give her filmy career a push in the right direction. And for those who thought she was just a pretty face, the sensual, stunning actress is determined to prove her prowess.
Something as small as the flutter of a butterfly's wing can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world. Chaos Theory.
Dia Mirza could have been a butterfly -- she's out with six new films that are creating quite a flutter, there's a skip in her stride as she flits from point to point in our conversation, and there is an effortlessness to her body language as she holds onto a lime green Roberto Cavalli dress. But before you can build up the pretty picture in your head, she stops to tell you that she's not looking forward to the butterfly stage in her life.
"It's nicer to be a caterpillar. The butterfly's life-span is only a day and I'm in no hurry to get there," she says, breaking out into peals of laughter. Intelligent. Easy. Honest. Who else confirms in full public view that they'd rather stay a caterpillar all their life? But such is the charm of Dia. She doesn't realise that no matter how much she resists, she's breaking out in vibrant colours, her forthcoming films guaranteed to bring back variety into starved multiplexes.
There's Kaun Bola with Arshad Warsi, where she plays a hot-shot fashion editor, and Acid Factory, an action thriller where she stars alongside six male co-stars. Kisaan, based on farmer suicides, and Johnny Mastana with Renzil D'Silva are her other offerings while Alibaug, a romantic drama that's "very close to her heart" is based on her all-time favourite book, Tuesdays with Morrie. And then, there's Fruit and Nut, a madhouse comedy where she's paired with Cyrus Broacha and Boman Irani.
The movies boast of a clear and audible shift in her acting agenda. They're off-beat, different, and they clearly outline the death of the damsel in distress, a role that Dia repeatedly played in the last few years. Right from her debut with Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein to a cluster of average films like Tumsa Nahin Dekha and Deewanapan to popular ones like Parineeta and more recently, Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd,
'Luck' promises death-defying stunts
He became popular right after his hit debut, but his last film 'Kidnap' didn't do him much good. Now Bollywood's latest heartthrob Imran Khan is hoping to hit the bull's eye with the edge-of-the-seat thriller 'Luck', which releases Friday.
The film is important for not only Imran but also director Soham Shah and its debutante leading lady Shruthi Haasan.
Shah, who disappeared after his 2004 directorial debut 'Kaal' was panned by the critics, is back to prove his mettle with 'Luck'. It is also the launch pad of Tamil thespian Kamal Haasan's daughter Shruthi. In short, a lot is riding on the movie.
Packed with death-defying stunts, 'Luck' is being promoted as an adrenaline-pumping, edge-of-the-seat thriller.
It revolves around mafia don Musa (Sanjay Dutt) whose only ambition in life is to revolutionise the betting industry. For him life is a gamble, and what better way to manipulate the odds than play with those with luck on their side.
The gripping saga has a host of characters from different parts of the world, each with Lady Luck in their favour. With millions at stake, how far each of them go in courting danger and deceit is what will lead the narrative to its climax.
The audiences can look forward to some daredevilry by Imran - he has gone underwater with sharks and has jumped from a helicopter on to a burning train.
In fact, while shooting one of the stunts, Imran injured himself, but he is unfazed.
"Shooting an action film can lead to plenty of injuries. The film required a lot of action stunts, jumping, running, kicking, etc. I got to do a variety of stunts. There was an underwater sequence where we had to shoot with sharks and a cage. For that we were trained in scuba diving. Then there was another one where I had to jump on to a speeding train that was on fire and fight on the train - those were exciting," Imran said.
Shah seems to be fascinated with rugged terrains - if he shot his horror thriller 'Kaal' in the Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand, he went to Namibia to shoot 'Luck' and the final output is said to be a visual delight.

Elvis is Singh! Saif dons the legend's robes for 'Love Aaj Kal'
Was that the late rock-and-roll legend Elvis Presley doing the jig in the promotional track of 'Love Aaj Kal'? But why was he wearing a pagri? Take a closer look -- it's our very own Saif Ali Khan.
For his home production 'Love Aaj Kal', Saif has appeared in one of the getups of Rock-n-Roll legend Elvis Presley. He has done so for the promotional track 'Aahun Aahun' which has just been unveiled.
'It wasn't planned this way but things just fell in place. I was in conversation with Dolly Ahluwalia, the costume designer, and we were discussing the retro outfits from the mid-60s. There was just one answer that we got -- Presley,' reveals director Imtiaz Ali who got Saif into the costume.
The song is a twin celebration of sorts since it showcases Saif from both 60s as well as the current times.
A fusion piece that has various flavours of Punjabi, Hindi as well as English coming together not just lyrically but also musically, 'Aahun Aahun' features the 60s Saif as a Sikh singing in Punjabi while the current generation Saif croons in Hindi and English.
'That's the way the entire song was designed,' said Imtiaz.
'Even though 'Aahun Aahun' is a promotional song, we didn't want Saif to slip out of the character. This is the reason why we had different costumes, settings and dance moves designed for both.'
Building on the idea, the team thought of showcasing Saif in a dance competition.
'Once we had the Elvis idea in place, the dance competition too fell in place. There is an elaborate sequence as a part of the song where Saif as a Sikh gets into the Elvis garb with his trademark white outfit. He challenges the modern day Saif in a dancing competition and the result is to see two Saif Ali Khans trying to be one up over the other in the same frame,' Imtiaz said.
The song also features Deepika Padukone in a stunning western outfit.
Pritam has put together the entire Punjabi-English-Hindi composition, while lyricist Irshad Kamil has brought youth flavour to the song. It has been sung by Neeraj Sridhar, Master Saleem and Suzanne.
Imtiaz says that though 'Aahun Aahun' is a promotional track, it won't be killed in the film.
'We can't infuse it unnecessarily as a part of the narrative because it won't make sense,' said Imtiaz.
'However, though it comes in the end credits of the film, it won't be wasted. Just like 'Mauja Hi Mauja' [Jab We Met] which got its due, even 'Aahun Aahun' will have its place under the sun.'

Michael Jackson's death to be treated as murder, says police
Michael Jackson's death is to be treated as a murder and would be investigated as such after an autopsy has shown that the King of Pop died from an overdose of heavy-duty painkiller Diprivan, police said.
Police have told Jackson's family that they will press charges against one or more people within a few days and that there will be a criminal trial. According to thesun.co.uk, the astonishing development was revealed in an interview by Terry Harvey, a long-time friend of the Jackson family.
'The autopsy shows that Michael died of a drug overdose with Diprivan and a range of pills in his stomach. He had needle marks on his neck and all over his body. The authorities have told the family the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) are pushing for a criminal charge,' said Harvey.
'It is likely to be second-degree murder, due to the actions which led to his death. They have been assured that someone, or maybe more than one person, will be brought to trial. The family is working with the DEA and Los Angeles Police Department to work out which doctor prescribed Michael these drugs and how far back this serious problem runs,' he added.
Last week La Toya Jackson told the News of the World she knew who had murdered her brother.
Jackson died in Los Angeles June 25. He was 50.

Dev Patel to star in Hindi remake of 'Nadodigal'
Thiruvananthapuram, July 19 : British-Indian actor Dev Patel, who starred in Oscar winning film 'Slumdog Millionaire', could in all probability star in the Hindi remake of Tamil movie 'Nadodigal'.
Addressing reporters here Sunday 'Nadodigal' director Samuthirakkani said that talks with Dev are underway.
'We are hopeful of signing him up for the lead role in the yet-to-be named Hindi remake of 'Nadodigal'. The Telugu remake will go on the floors next month with Ravi Teja in the lead role and we will start shooting the Kannada remake in December with Puneet in the lead,' said Samuthirakkani who will direct all the three versions.
Released last month, the film starring director-actor Sasikumar, Abhinaya, Ananya, Vijay Vasanth, Bharani and Ganja Karuppu is running packed houses at 168 centres in Tamil Nadu.
'The total cost of the film was Rs.7.40 crore. According to the distributors, the film is expected to gross more than Rs.30 crore once it completes 100 days,' said Samuthirakkani.
'Nadodigal', an ode to friendship, revolves around Karuna (Sasikumar), Chandran (Vijay Vasanth) and Pandian (Bharani) - the three youths in a small town who share good camaraderie and their friendship spills over to their respective families too.
The film does carry an appealing message for today's fast paced society.
There are three actresses in the film and one of them is Abhinaya, who is deaf and dumb. But Samuthirakkani says he didn't face any problem while instructing her.
'I had no problem to communicate with her. Her mother assisted us and she has done an excellent role despite her handicap,' said the director.
The film also stars Ananya and Malaysia-based Shanthini.

Three boys die attempting Aamir Khan's 'Ghulam' stunt
Ludhiana, July 19 : Three teen-aged friends in this Punjab town attempted Aamir Khan's 'Ghulam' stunt of out-racing an incoming train to reach a spot in their real life. But they failed and lost the bet, and lost their lives too.
Police said the boys - in the age group of 15 to 16 - had struck a bet to run on the track towards the fast moving incoming train. However, they were run over by the train before they could jump off the tracks in Ludhiana, around 100 km from Chandigarh.
'Kala and Lalu died on the spot while Anees succumbed to his injuries in a hospital. He told police that they had struck a bet to see who could run for the longest duration in front of a running train,' said a railway police official.
'They were in the age group of 15 to 16 years and we are suspecting that the three were running on the railway track under the influence of liquor, due to which they could not react in time.'
The 'Ghulam' train sequence that shows Aamir Khan running on the tracks towards an incoming train had won the Bollywood actor the Best Stunt award. Aamir Khan had himself performed the stunt of the famous 'dus ki daud' sequence.

When it comes to word power Asin's an ace at it! No wonder Scrabble is her favourite game. ''Scrabble is Asin's favourite indoor game. If she has time on hand and is at home you see Asin busy playing Scrabble. She loves to dabble with words,'' said a source.
Scrabble has enhanced Asin's word power.
''The game has made her master new words. Asin is already very good with the English language; Scrabble has only improved it further. She loves playing all sorts of word games and is a pro at them!'' said the source.
Infact not many know that Asin is a master at seven languages. The actress is well-versed with not only the South Indian languages but also French, English, Hindi and Sanskrit. ''Asin was good at languages right since her school days. She used to pick up foreign languages very quickly. It was a talent that she was born with. Infact, she dubs for all her movies herself and does not depend on a dubbing artist,'' said a source.
Abbas-Mustan's 'Italian Job' not a con job
Mumbai, July 17 With Hollywood studios keeping a hawk's eye over the Hindi film industry, Bollywood filmmakers are growing copyright savvy and Abbas-Mustan say that their 'Italian Job' won't just be a remake of the 2003 con-caper but a 'mix n match' of the original film and its remake.
'Italian Job' was originally made by Peter Collinson in 1969 with Michael Caine in the lead. In 2003, director F. Gary Gray remade it with Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron. Both the original and the remake were big hits.
'Our producer Studio 18 have bought the rights of both the 1969 Michael Caine film and the 2003 film. We're doing a mix n match of 'Italian Job'. We're taking whatever elements we like from the two Hollywood films and putting them together in our own way,' Abbas told IANS.
In the past, Abbas-Mustan have outright lifted Hollywood films like 'Disclosure' to make 'Aetraaz'. Thye put them together without radical changes.
'But this time we aren't doing that,' said Abbas currently scripting the film. 'We want to turn the 'Italian Job' into a total desi film.'
The cast is yet to be decided. But the sources said that the director plans to rope in Saif Ali Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Neil Nitin Mukesh, among others.

Katrina concerned about global warming

'I saw death very closely in Luck'
One of the leading stars in Bhojpuri cinema, Ravi Kissen crossed over to Hindi movies after his stint in Bigg Boss. He will be seen in Soham Shah's Luck, also starring Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan, Shruti Haasan, Mithun Chakraborty, Danny Denzongpa and Chitrashi Rawat.
He talks to Patcy N about how luck held during his journey from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, to Mumbai.
This is your second innings in Bollywood.
I came to Mumbai in 1990 to try my luck in films. But I did not get any success. My work was appreciated in Tere Naam but nothing happened. So I moved to Bhojpuri cinema. Now, I have got a chance to work in Bollywood again.
I did not think I would get to work in Luck and Mani Ratnam's Raavan. After Shyam Benegal's Welcome to Sajjanpur, I got another film with him, Abba Ka Kuan. I am not only getting to work with big filmmakers but am also getting better roles.
What do you think went wrong the first time?
When I came from my village, I was not very smart. I thought it was more important to survive. But if you sign one wrong film, you go back five years in life. Besides, I did not have a godfather or any help from anyone. So it's natural to make mistakes and fumble. But I have learnt because of this failure. My dreams are coming true now.
I have done 140 films in total -- 100 Bhojpuri and 40 Hindi films. Before I would work in 13-14 films a year but now I plan to do four to six films a year.

Yash Raj Films denies signing Salman Khan
Bollywood's prestigious banner Yash Raj Films has denied reports that it has signed Salman Khan for a movie, saying they are 'completely baseless'.
It was reported that writer-turned-director Vijay Krishna Acharya, whose directorial debut 'Tashan' was produced by the banner, is directing his second film for Yash Raj Films and that Salman would star in it.
'We would like to clarify that this is a completely baseless and incorrect story. Vijay is still in the process of writing his next script for Yash Raj Films. No casting has therefore been done nor has anyone been considered for the same,' stated the banner.
'As and when we do finalise the script and the casting is complete, a suitable announcement will be made,' it added.
Salman, who has worked with almost all the filmmakers in the industry, is yet to be seen in a Yash Raj Films production.

Amitabh Bachchan reprises his NAMAK HALAAL look
While Amitabh Bachchan's celebrated look in the classic 'Pag Ghunghroo' from the film NAMAK HALAAL is still fresh in our minds, the actor will be seen once again in a similar avatar in Eros International's ALADIN.
Mr. Bachchan will be seen grooving to a peppy number called 'O Re Sawariya' in the celebrated White kurta and Pink Pagadi which he once donned in the film NAMAK HALAAL.
In this sequence, Jacqueline (Jasmine) is trying to woo Riteish (Aladin) while Amitabh Bachchan (Genius) keeps popping into the scene at various points.
Says Director Sujoy Ghosh, ''We had no intentions of repeating his look from NAMAK HALAAL. It is purely a coincidence but it definitely shows how the actor has impacted our minds over the years through his cult performances.''
Talking about the song, Sujoy adds, '''O Re Sawariya' is a fun filled number and Mr. Bachchan has added an extra charm to it with his unique style and unbeatable energy. We had a great time filming this song and I am sure audiences will love it too''.
The song is picturised on Mr. Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh and Jacqueline Fernandes and choreographed by Bosco Ceaser and Saroj Khan. The soundtrack is by duo Vishal-Shekhar. The costumes for the film are designed by Narendra Kumar.
Packed with fun, music, masti, action and adventure ALADIN boasts of a visual scale never seen before on Indian screen.
Starring Amitabh Bachchan as Genius - The Genie, Ritiesh Deshmukh as Aladin and Sanjay Dutt as 'Ringmaster', ALADIN also marks the debut of Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandes who is paired opposite Ritiesh. ALADIN, produced by Eros International and Boundscript (Sujoy Ghosh) is a contemporary look at the classic fairy tale.
ALADIN is arriving at theatres this Diwali.
Mani's RAAVAN: ZANJEER like moment for Nikhil!
Like the typical Bollywood flick, everybody loves the outsider who makes it big. You know the quintessential rags-to-riches hero sans a celebrated last name, who
gets the hits.
Nikhil Dwivedi's is turning out to be the classic case of the proverbial outsider storming Bollywood without any star system to support him, who had made his debut
with MY NAME IS ANTHONY GONSALVES.
He was noticed for his earnest debut performance, and no less than the genius director Mani Ratnam impressed by his talent, signed Nikhil in his next cinematic vision
RAAVAN, which turned out to be the best gift any actor could get.
To Nikhil's credit, the directors rave about his talent and his attitude, which they are sure will prove his altitude in the Bollywood.
And sure enough Nikhil is not disappointing, as he has already signed on with 4 accomplished directors in their future projects. He has already built on the momentum
that will pitchfork him as the star to look out for in the near future.
As Nikhil strongly believes that all of us are there in a common time zone, in the end, the hardworking people with talent, who are backed by their destinies, will stay.
Well sure looks like Mani Ratnam's RAAVAN can turn a new chapter, that one ZANJEER like moment, which will pitchfork Nikhil as the best young 'Outside' talent
to become deeply rooted in the masses' psyche, like his illustrious predecessors!!
Adhyayan Suman: Mahesh Bhatt is like a drug
Adhyayan Suman isn't shying away from admitting that he was in awe of Mahesh Bhatt throughout the making of JASHNN. He also shares his apprehensions about being the main lead in the film, his relationship with Mahesh Bhatt and how, in spite of a HAAL-E-DIL and a RAAZ - THE MYSTERY CONTINUES behind him, he is looking at JASHNN as the make or break film for himself.
It is said that when all doors close, there is always Vishesh Films for aspiring and promising actors. Did he go through the similar kind of sentiments? Says Adhyayan, ''Yes, I do believe in that. This is one production house which believes in making stars. People are scared of newcomers but not them. They work hard on a new person and make them stars. It is just commendable.''
All cast members seem to be in awe with Mahesh Bhatt, isn't it?
''But then you can't really help it! Mahesh Bhatt is like a drug; he takes you to a different world. Honestly, you can't think of anything else when he is talking. You just go and perform the way he wants. This is exactly what happened to me for those 44 days that I shot for the film. I was quite disciplined on the sets and was very close to him. I used to talk to him all throughout the day. After all there is so much to learn from him; he is 55 and I am just 21. This man has indeed seen life!,'' Adhyayan goes gaga over Mahesh Bhatt.
From the films coming from the house of Bhatts, one expects a fair amount of skin show embellished into the screenplay. ''Yes, there is skin show in the film but in very limited dose. The script required me to have a love making scene with Anjana (Sukhani) and it has turned out well. Thankfully censors haven't objected to that.'' Adds the actor.
And about Anjana's contribution to the film's storyline Adhyayan says, ''Anjana has a important part in the film and the storyline won't move ahead without her. She is just brilliant in the movie.''
After making a mark in RAAZ - THE MYSTERY CONTINUES Adhyayan is eagerly looking at the release of JASHNN as his most important film ever. ''Yes, JASHNN is indeed a make or break movie for me. This is the first time I have got a full fledged role where I have got a platform to showcase my talent. So yes, it is THE most important film for me,'' Adhyayan concludes.
