Finding Your Profitable Blog Niche - How To Do It

By Big John Owensville

Discovering a profitable blog niche should be an action carefully researched before acting. If you're only purpose is to start a blog about your family, then obviously it doesn't matter what subject you cover. On the other hand, if you're wanting to make money from blogging, the niche you choose is very important. You'll need to know how much competition there is in a niche, how well does it pay, are there any affiliate programs for your niche and so forth.

What I'll be trying to do here is to get you thinking outside the box when choosing a profitable niche. I'll show you that it doesn't matter if you're a new blogger to the Internet or a seasoned pro. My tactics will allow you to search out profitable niches in any field.

Categorizing Your Interest

The advantage of starting out with something you're knowledgeable and passionate about is that you'll have plenty of ideas to blog about. One of the biggest failing points for bloggers is finding something to continually blog about. This is why it's important to choose something you know and have interest in. It doesn't matter all that much what the niche is. Perhaps you love to Cook, sew, work with wood, play Soccer or watch professional football. Any of these niches can be profitable. If you're truly passionate about a subject, you're more likely to turn out interesting and informative articles. This will keep the traffic to your blog coming in, thus making your niche a profitable one.

Do not get discouraged if your interest is not a wildly popular one. As long as you dominate your niche, you can be profitable. If the niche you choose isn't a hugely popular one, then start another blog on another interest of yours. I have a friend who blogs about working on his Muscle Cars. With the price of gas these days, you'd think there wouldn't be much interest. But on an average day his blog receiveds over 2000 unique visitors. His income from this blog is about $1300 per month and steadily climbing. Did he start the blog to make money? No. He started it because he likes working on old cars and wanted to share his knowledge with others. This is the secret of successful blogging!

Sizing Up Your Competition

Once a blogger has selected one or more subjects he is considering for a blog, it is time to begin evaluating the competition. This includes viewing other blogs covering the same subject matter. This will not only give the blogger a good indication of whether or not the market is already saturated with blogs on this subject and the quality of the existing blogs on this subject. Based on this information the blogger can make an informed decision about whether or not he feels capable of competing for blog traffic with the existing blogs.

What is the Purpose of Your Blog?

Another important consideration for bloggers is the purpose of the blogs. Blogs can be created for a variety of reasons including financial compensation, personal use or to promote a cause. Bloggers who are starting a blog for personal use may only wish to consider their own interests when starting a blog because they are not likely seeking high blog traffic. However, bloggers who are creating a blog for purposes of generating a profit or promoting a cause do have to consider factors such as the ability to generate blog traffic.

Now having said that, I can't tell you how important it is that you choose a niche that is capable of driving traffic to your blog. Don't think that just because a topic is popular, that you'll be successful. Many new bloggers in the make money online niche end up failing miserably because they never took into account the difficulty in getting their blogs ranked high enough to generate traffic. This is probably one of the most saturated niches on the Internet and I continually see new bloggers waste time and money on it when they could have already dominated a different niche and be making money from it. - 17835
