Saif's perfect timing...

The change in Saif's hair length has been cleverly incorporated in forthcoming film LOVE AAJ KAL.
A unit member said, "The entire San Francisco schedule was designed on the basis of Saif's hair and beard. Saif had to have four different looks so schedule was timed in such way that Saif could play with the length of his natural hair rather than use fake beard and hair extensions."

The scene where Saif is actually getting a hair-cut at the salon is real one. "The stylist was giving Saif a haircut in reality. Imtiaz Ali took it as a shot in the film," informs the source.

Emraan Hashmi: I haven't over priced myself

2009 - RAAZ THE MYSTERY CONTINUES.
2008 - JANNAT.

2007 - AWARAPAN.

2006 - GANGSTER.

2005 - AASHIQ BANAYA AAPNE.

2004 - MURDER.

2003 - FOOTPATH.

Ever since Emraan Hashmi has set his feet in the industry, he has made his presence felt amongst the audience. With a successful film or a critically acclaimed performance to boast of, he has only seen his career graph going up with each release of his. Naturally, it is expected that his price too goes up as the budget of his films see an escalation.

''Well, you have to be realistic when it comes to money. Ultimately, you don't want it to be damaging for the film'', says Emraan who rather than jumping on the 5-10-15 crores bandwagon is instead taking it slow and assessing the situation before going overboard with his remuneration.

''I have to look at the budget of the film and not dig into it and make a big hole there'', he reasons, ''The price I charge has to be justifiable enough and that's the reason why I have never over priced myself. What's the point in doing that; it will only harm my own movie, right? If I too start making unnecessary demands when it comes to money matters then it all turns out to be a con job. Sorry, but I have never done that and I don't want to that either.''

So what does he really want to do?

''Well, I want to make good movies. I am just six years into the industry and currently at the dawn of my career'', says Emraan, ''I will ask for money that is fair for all. Also, situation is different when you work in solo and multi starrers so I assess that situation as well before I quote my price.''

Bhatts stay away from skin show in JASHNN

While majority of films coming from the house of Bhatts traditionally boast of liberal dose of skin show, it is not really the case in their upcoming film JASHNN. For this dramatic musical, the makers were sure that they didn't need to resort to skin show and instead wanted to completely focus on the relationships which drove the story forward. This is the reason why a solitary love making scene in the film also lasts for just a few seconds while being a part of the song.
''We decided at the very onset of JASHNN there it won't have any skin show'', informs the director duo Raksha-Hasnain that had allowed fair amount of skin on display in THE KILLER and THE TRAIN, ''What you see in the promos is all that you get to see in the film. There is a love making scene that is made up of hardly three shots with a sedate kiss thrown in.''

Was there really a need for this scene featuring Adhyayan Suman and Anjana Sukhani to be retained when the makers had made up their mind?

''Yes, this sequence is required since Adhyayan's character is shown to be going through a phase when a lot of anger, fear and frustration is building in him'', adds Raksha, ''It's that point which could come into any teenager's life where making love becomes a kind of outlet for such pent up emotions. The story requires that point in his life to be shown. However, as we stated earlier, instead of going overboard and using the sequence for titillation, we have just kept it extremely subtle and indicative.''

Adhyayan too agrees on the presence of the sequence but also adds cautiously, ''There is nothing suggestive about it and cliched as it may sound but it has been shot quite aesthetically. When you watch the film you will see it for yourself.''

I'd love to work with dad again: Akshaye Khanna

Akshaye Khanna shared screen space with his dad Vinod Khanna in his debut film 'Himalay Putra' 12 years ago. The actor is now longing to act with the veteran thespian once again.

"I would love to (act with my father). Dad is a superb actor and my idol. At the moment there is no project in the pipeline... let's hope somebody would come to us with a fantastic script that would do justice to him as an actor," Akshaye told us in an email interview.

The actor, who has done hit films like 'Border', 'Taal', 'Dil Chahta Hai' and 'Hungama' among others, is ready with his first release of the year 'Short Kut - The Con Is On', an Anil Kapoor production.

Talking about his role in the film that also stars Arshad Warsi and Amrita Arora in pivotal roles, Akshaye said he plays the role Anil was slated to essay.

"I'm playing a struggling assistant who wants to become a successful director. Earlier Anil was supposed to do my role and I was to do Arshad's but later he decided just to produce it and not to get into acting," he said.

"The script was first written by Anees Bazmi and then rewritten by Neeraj Vora, both geniuses at comedy. So I was assured that the film is going to be hilarious," said the actor, who is known to have great comic timing.

'Short Kut' is Akshaye's second film with Anil Kapoor as producer, the first one being the critically-acclaimed 'Gandhi My Father'. Asked about his camaraderie with the actor-producer, Akshaye said Anil is like an elder brother to him.

"Anil is like my elder brother. It was great working with him once again. It was almost like working for my own production house. What I like the best about him is that he puts his soul behind the films he makes and that encourages everyone to work harder," Akshaye said.

So how easy is it to carry off a comedy?

"I'm very comfortable with comedy, although doing comedy is very tough because it should come naturally to you when you are in front of the camera and (it) should not look forced. If the act looks forced, it would get translated on screen and people won't enjoy watching it. You have to try all the more hard to look natural on screen," said the 34-year-old who has no plans for marriage in the near future.

The actor has two projects lined up.

"I am doing a film again with Anil Kapoor titled 'No Problem'. It is directed by Anees Bazmi and then a thriller with Priyadarshan which is based on a report that had appeared in a newspaper some time ago."

So how does he look back at the 12 years in the film industry?

"I am happy with whatever I have got professionally. I am happy that the industry and people have accepted me as an actor. No regrets as such. You learn from what you do. I am still learning," he said.

It's a blast from the past for Bollywood now

It was all about looking into the future for Bollywood with films like 'Aa Dekhen Zara', '13 B' and 'Kal Kissne Dekha' hitting the screens in recent times. But now it is flashback time and forthcoming movies will see popular actors exploring the times that have gone by.

These include Saif Ali Khan's production debut 'Love Aaj Kal', "Akshay Kumar's 'Action Replay' and 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai' that stars Emraan Hashmi.

Said director Imtiaz Ali, who has brought together two eras in his 'Love Aaj Kal': "The film moves in two different eras - 1965 and 2009 - almost simultaneously. They could well be termed as 'Love Kal' and 'Love Aaj' respectively due to their relevance with the characters and the time period involved.

"The story is told from the point of view of Veer and Jai respectively who have a different perspective about love and relationships."

Incidentally, Saif plays the double role of both Veer and Jai, while Rishi Kapoor forms an important part in the entire narration that travels across London, San Francisco, Delhi and Kolkata. The film also stars Deepika Padukone.

From the 1960s, Bollywood moves to the 1970s as Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai come together for 'Action Replay'. The film is said to be going into two time zones - 1975 and the current times.

"Yes, the film is about a time-travel tale. It also stars Randhir Kapoor. Beyond that, I can't reveal much about the film's plot," said producer and director Vipul Shah.

Composer Pritam too has made tunes suited to the 70s.

"Yes, I have created compositions that completely go with the mood of the 70s. It's been a unique experience...," he said.

Emraan Hashmi shares similar sentiments after briefly shooting for director Milan Luthria 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai'.

Excited about finding himself in an underworld set-up belonging to the 1970s in the film, the actor said: "It's good to be stepping into an era when the underworld had just started making its presence felt. Milan is coming up with an entirely new presentation of what crime was back then."

He is impressed with the way the film has been shot so far.

" 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai' is an entirely new way of narrating a story and such kinds of scripts are Milan's forte. You can see that he is all pumped up when it comes to high testosterone, male-oriented films like the ones he has directed in the past ('Kachche Dhaage' for example). The 70s flavour is only adding to the entire fun," Emraan said.

The film sees Emraan coming together with Ajay Devgan for the first time. The leading ladies - Kangana Ranaut and Prachi Desai - are also going all out to get that perfect 70s look.

Then there are films coming up that might be set in current times but inspired by the 70s nevertheless.

In a few weeks from now, Vishal Bhardwaj would be releasing his 'Kaminey'. Going by the look, treatment and music of the film, it seems to be searching into the past for inspiration.

In fact makers of 'Kaminey' have been making no bones about the fact that this Shahid Kapoor-Priyanka-starrer belongs to the caper genre, something that has been mastered by Hollywood filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino and Tony Scott, known for the 70s treatment imparted into their films.

'New York' breaks dry spell, receives promising response

Director Kabir Khan's 'New York', a film about three friends in the backdrop of 9/11 and its repercussions, has received a heartening response at the box office, according to multiplex representatives.

After the initial bout of advance bookings, the demand for the movie's tickets is only heading north, according to Amit Awasthi, manager (programming and operations) of Spice Cinemas, Noida.

"Bookings for the film have been 96-100 percent. It is expected that in about three days, revenues will cross Rs.1.2-1.3 million for us," said Awasthi.

Representatives from Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (R-ADAG) owned BIG Cinemas as well as from Satyam Cineplex, echoed similar sentiments.

"Currently 'New York' is giving 100 percent booking and most shows are houseful. As for revenues, we have collected 85 percent for today (Saturday)," said Munish Sharma, general manager (marketing), Satyam Cineplex.

Though Tushar Dhingra, chief operating office, BIG Cinemas did not divulge figures, he said that the film has "opened very soundly and is giving good results".

"It has proved to be a strong box office ledge for multiplexes. After a long long time, with the knack that this movie has, it has been able to pull the crowds to the cinema halls again," he said.

For most multiplexes across the country, 'New York', which stars John Abraham, Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh in the lead, has brought in a much-needed whiff of fresh air, especially after the end of the producer-multiplex strike.

After the strike, which resulted in losses of Rs.3.5 billion for the Indian film industry, ceased, films like 'Kal Kissne Dekha', 'Paying Guests', 'Let's Dance' et al, failed to create a buzz at the box office.

However, trade pundits had predicted a positive fate for 'New York' thanks to its star cast and the Yash Raj Films banner under which it has been produced.

"The audience is hungry for new and exciting content and considering it's A-list star cast, promotional spree and its banner (YRF) - 'New York' is definitely going to bring in a very good business in its opening weekend itself," Joginder Mahajan, a Delhi-based distributor had told us before the film's release.

Now that the film's business is picking up, what remains to be seen is whether it sustains its position for a week or not as Sajid Nadiadwala's big ticket film 'Kambakkht Ishq', starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor and Hollywood stars Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards and Brandon Routh, awaits its release Friday.

Shahid hosts big party for Priyanka

The hottest couple in Bollywood Priyanka Chopra and Shshid Kapoor surprised everyone by appearing in public recently. The two had been going steady for some time but then there were rumours that they had split.

So when Shahid and Priyanka were spotted at a restaurant, the onlookers were surprised as the two behaved as if they were in love for the first time. Shahid is also reported to have given a big party to Priyanka recently.

Shahid and Priyanka make good pair and they are way ahead of Saif-Kareena in the popularity charts.

Kareena and Akshay lock lips for ten steamy kisses in ‘Kambakkht Ishq’

Beaming and gushing with pride over Hollywood hottie Denise Richard’s good kisser compliment, Akshay Kumar is yet to pass the acid test. The actor, who seems to have swept off the videshi bombshell with his lip-smacking act, is still awaiting some extol from Kareena Kapoor as they are touted to have over ten steamy lip locks in ‘Kambakkht Ishq’.

While Denise might have let her pleasure known loud and clear, Bebo seems to be keeping mum about her serial kissing act. Well, after creating such a ruckus over her beau Saif’s one teeny-weeny lip act in ‘Love Aaj Kal’, Bebo sure wanted to keep her endeavours hidden.

But with the film all set to release, Kareena’s secret seems to have come out. According to the latest Bollywood news, Kareena and Akshay have some very steamy love scenes besides smooching over ten times.

Confirming the news, a daily quoted a source as saying, “While everyone is aware that there is a kissing scene between Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor, no one knows that they have lip locked as many as ten times. The news has been very hush hush affair as both the lead actors were of the opinion that it should not be leaked out."

And the kisses are not only bound to leave the viewers surprised but have also led to many whispers in B-town. Considering the two stars are committed, many people from the industry found it hard to gulp the news.

Well, the saucy chemistry might entertain the audience but it sure seems a recipe for heartbreak.

Transcript of emergency call from MJ's home

The autopsy details of pop star Michael Jackson give a horrifying picture of the singer at the time of his death - he was a virtual skeleton as he was barely eating, there were only pills in his stomach. He was bald, bruised and also had broken ribs and needle wounds.

His hips, thighs and shoulders were riddled with needle wounds believed to be the result of injections of narcotic painkillers, given three times a day for years.

And multiple surgery scars were said to be the legacy of at least 13 cosmetic operations. Experts found the distressing evidence of Jackson's physical decline while investigating his startling death here last week.
Following is the 911 call from Michael Jackson's [Images] Los Angeles home at 12:21(0051 IST) on Thursday. The caller from the singer's home said that Jackson was not breathing or responding to efforts to revive him.

911: Fire and paramedics 33. What is the address of the emergency?
Caller: Yes sir, I need an ambulance as soon as possible, sir.
911: OK, sir. What is your address?
Caller: It's 100 North Carolwood Drive, Los Angeles, California, 90077.
911: You said Carolwood?
Caller: Carolwood Drive, yes.
911: OK, sir. What is the phone number that you are calling from?
Caller: (Redacted)
911: And what exactly happened?
Caller: We have a gentleman here that needs help and he's not breathing yet. He's not breathing and we're trying to pump him but he's not. He's not.
911: OK, how old is he?
Caller: He's 50 years old, sir.
911: 50? OK, he's not breathing? Not conscious.
Caller: No, he's not breathing. He's not conscious sir.
911: Do you have him on the floor? Where's he at right now?
Caller: He's on the bed sir. He's on the bed. We need them.
911: Let's get him on the floor. We're already on the way. I'm going to do as much as I can to help you on the phone. We're already on our way. Did anybody see him?
Caller: Yes, we have a personal doctor with him, sir.
911: Oh, you have a doctor there?
Caller: Yes, but he's not responding to anything. He's not responding to CPR or anything.
911: Oh, OK, we're on our way there. If your guy is doing CPR and you are instructed by a doctor, he's a higher authority than me. And he's there on scene. Did anybody witness what happened?
Caller: No, just the doctor, sir. The doctor has been the only one there.
911: OK, so the doctor saw what happened?
Caller: Doctor, did you see what happened, sir? (The voice of the doctor in the background is not clear)
Caller: Sir, if you can please.
911: We're on our way. I'm just passing these questions on to my paramedics while they're on the way there, sir.
Caller: Thank you sir. He's pumping his chest but he's not responding to anything. Please.
911: Ok, Ok. We're on our way. We're less than a mile away from Cedars and we'll be there shortly.

Akshay Kumar: Problem with an image is that....

Now that KAMBAKKHT ISHQ is round the corner, audiences are looking forward to Akshay Kumar in the act once again. After some buffoonery at show in CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, Akshay Kumar went through an image change once again in 8X10 TASVEER where he attempted (and succeeded well as well) in giving a serious account of himself. However, with KAMBAKKHT ISHQ he is back to his street-smart ways, something that worked quite well for him in movies like SINGH IS KINNG, TASHAN, BHOOL BHULAIYAA, HEYY BABYY and many more. Guess he is back to carrying on with his most successful image, right?
"Well, the problem with the image is that people still continue to question you", says Akshay, "When I used to do comedy then people used to say that now that you have been doing so much of it, why don't you do something else?' This is why I went ahead and did 8X10 TASVEER. Now when that film is gone, people ask if they can have me in a comedy role again. Can they have more of a WELCOME or a PHIR HERA PHERI? So, it's a pretty dicey situation because at the end of the day, different people will always have different expectations from you, both when you are following or trying to change an image."

He continues to stand by Nagesh Kukunoor, the director of 8X10 TASVEER, even if the film didn't do well at the box office.

"I think it's one of the best films that Nagesh made", says Akshay, "We all took a risk with 8X10 TASVEER; sometimes a thing like this works and sometimes it doesn't. Yes, some people did question the entire double role thing in the end. I understand that it sounded cliched to some but then we still tried to make it look and feel different."

He is quite sure though that in case of KAMBAKKTH ISHQ, the emphasis has been to tell a holds-no-bar masala story. "It is as entertaining as it gets and we have made a simple film that will appeal to the masses. Period", concludes Akshay.

Rani Mukerji turns 'sardar' for Yash Raj's next

Rani Mukerji has not been seen on the big screen for a quite a while now. And she is set to surprise her fans with her new look in Yash Raj Films' next " Dil Bole Hadippa" - the actress will play a sardar complete with a beard and a turban.

In the romantic comedy, set in Punjab, Rani essays the role of a girl who has to don the garb of a man to fulfil her dreams, said a press release from the production house.

For her role, ace fashion designer Manish Malhotra has designed the traditional kurta-pyjama and teamed it up with sports shoes to give a manly touch to Rani's looks in the movie.

For the rest of the film, Rani's looks have been styled by Mike Stringer, who was responsible for Hrithik Roshan's multiple disguises in "Dhoom 2". He was especially flown in from London to design Rani's look for "Dil Bole Hadippa".

Directed by Anurag Singh, the film also stars Shahid Kapoor, Anupam Kher along with item girls Rakhi Sawant and Sherlyn Chopra.

The theatrical promos of the film have been released along with "New York" and the film is slated for a Sep 18 release.

Dilip Kumar hospitalised

Thespian Dilip Kumar [Images] has been admitted to a hospital in Mumbai's [Images] suburban Bandra after testing positive for malaria and his condition is stable, doctors attending on him said on Monday.

"Dilip Kumar was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Lilavati Hospital on Sunday and was diagnosed to be suffering from malaria," Dr Jalil Parker, who is treating him at the hospital, told PTI.

"His condition is stable and he is on the road to recovery. He will be discharged within 2-3 days," Hospital Director Dr Narendra Trivedi said.

The 87-year-old actor was suffering from high fever since Saturday and the family decided to get him admitted to facilitate proper investigation. The actor was last year admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Delhi [Images] due to complications resulting from a urinary tract infection.

Sanjay Dutt jumps off running train!

He is 49 and he still does daring stunts. Sanjay Dutt jumped off a speeding train blindfolded and with his hands tied behind his back - for a death-defying Rs.1.5 crore (Rs.15 million) scene in "Luck".

According to director Soham Shah, Sanjay's sequence is the "biggest and the most expensive" highlight of the film.

"It is Sanju's (Sanjay's) introductory sequence. Along with other actors, he jumps from a running train, blindfolded with his hands tied behind his back. The scene is about these characters testing their luck," Shah said in a press statement.

"When we narrated the scene to him, he said he didn't want to use any safety measures or dummies. He was kicked about shooting such a high-voltage action scene on his own," said Shah, who had kept cables and harnesses ready for the safety of his actors.

Commenting upon the scene, Sanjay said: "I hadn't shot such a hardcore action sequence in a long time. So when the opportunity arose, I decided to do it myself. Initially, I was a bit nervous but then I gauged the jump from the cage in the train to the tracks. After the jump, we had to speed away from the train and keep running. For that split second, I had my heart in my mouth but fortunately things went well."

The entire sequence, which involved five trains, was supervised by ace action director Allan Amin and was canned in Goa.

"The train sequence was technically impossible to set up in Mumbai or any other big city, so we shot it in Goa. The authorities helped us and some trains were kept on standby for a couple of days. It was a very expensive shoot. A five-day shoot with five trains a day cost us over Rs.1.5 crore."

"Luck", which also stars Imran Khan, Shruti Hassan and Mithun Chakraborty, is slated to release July 24.

Eros plans widest ever release for KAMBAKKHT ISHQ

Eros International has announced the forthcoming worldwide release of one of the most anticipated blockbusters this year, Sajid Nadiadwala's KAMBAKKHT ISHQ, co-produced by Sunil A. Lulla and directed by Sabbir Khan on 3rd July 2009. Eros is releasing the film across an unprecedented 2000 plus screens worldwide, making it one of the widest releases in recent times. This would include more than 1400 screens in India and over 600 overseas and will be a combination of prints and digital format.
Owing to popular demand, Eros International, Sajid Nadiadwala and the multiplexes have decided to open advance bookings from Sunday, 28th June itself instead of the usual Wednesday.

Commenting on the release plans, Sunil Lulla, President - Eros International, India said, ''We are looking forward to releasing KAMBAKKHT ISHQ which is one of the most awaited films of the year. Audience and trade reactions to the first look and promos have been extremely promising and we are excited to be leveraging Eros' global distribution in promoting and releasing the film. KAMBAKKHT ISHQ is a fun film and with the wide distribution strategy, we hope to reach out to a record number of audiences worldwide''.

Nandu Ahuja, SVP, India Distribution - Eros International added, ''With KAMBAKKHT ISHQ we are striving to reach out to all segments of audiences be it smaller towns, metros, mini-metros and grab maximum possible footfalls into theatres and also combat piracy. KAMBAKKHT ISHQ signifies the first ever Indian film to feature both Indian stars and Hollywood talent on one cinematic canvas - India's top-ranking artists, Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor, with special guest appearances by Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh and Denise Richards. An exciting 'chemistry' between a dashing stuntman in Hollywood and a firebrand model, KAMBAKKHT ISHQ creates a perfect premise for a thrilling battle of the sexes with music by Anu Malik.

Chunky Pandey's Double trouble

For the first time ever in his two decade long career, Chunky Pandey is enacting a double role. Not just he is extremely excited about his film, he is also warning audience beforehand about what to expect, especially with two Chunky Pandey on screen. The film in question is SANKAT CITY which is directed by debutant Pankaj Advani.
'The film is a black comedy and what makes it further special is the fact that for the first time in my career, I have a double role in a film', winks Chunky.

Two Chunkys in a single film? Now that's quite some deal, isn't it?

Laughs Chunky, 'Yes, I am warning audience beforehand, though let me tell you that the film features Kay Kay Menon and Rimii Sen as well. The film moves in real time and has an amazing screenplay to boast. Quite some effort went into creating my look and even I couldn't recognize myself when I saw myself for the first time in the mirror after my makeup was done.'

Chunky Pandey promises that his SANKAT CITY would show that side of Mumbai which has been hitherto unexplored.

''There have been number of films that have been made with Mumbai as a backdrop or a character. COMPANY, LIFE IN A METRO, EK CHALIS KI LAST LOCAL - they all have presented Mumbai in a different manner. Now watch out for SANKAT CITY which shows the flip side of the city. It has been brilliantly presented by Pankaj Advani, who makes his debut as a director with this film'', says Chunky Pandey.

As for 2009, it seems like Chunky Pandey film festival in the offering, what with as many as half a dozen films featuring him lined for release. While he has already been seen in EK - THE POWER OF ONE and PAYING GUESTS already, there are also films like SHORTKUT - THE CON IS ON, DE DANA DAN, DADDY COOL, CLICK, MONOPOLY - THE GAME OF MONEY, HELLO DARLING, KHALLBALLI - FUN UNLIMITED and ISHAAN and lined up for release.

Coming back to SANKAT CITY, the film has been produced by Anubhav Sinha and has been ready for some time. Also starring Anupam Kher, Dilip Prabhawalkar, Rahul Dev, Yashpal Sharma, Manoj Pahwa and Sanjay Mishra in principal roles, SANKAT CITY was waiting for the right time to see a theatrical release and is now all set for a 10th July release.

'Runway': A trash affair!

When a filmmaker doesn't have any story to tell, he tries to perk up the narrative by using jump cuts, freeze frames and other technical wizardry - last year it was seen in 'Woodstock Villa', this year it's in 'Runway'.

Review

'Runway' sets the message right at the very beginning that it is an exercise in futility.

Amarjeet Shukla, the lead protagonist in the film, becomes a contract killer to save the life of his lady love Deepal Shaw, who is dying due to drug usage. He comes in touch with people like Sharat Saxena who plays underworld English speaking kingpin who wears dark shades, is surrounded by those 80s style left over blue-n-white drums and announces - 'I am not interested in your love story; I want brave people'.

Amarjeet's friend, who introduces him to the Don also warns him - 'He is a man of commitment, so be careful.'

It's just that the 'man of commitment' himself is nowhere to be seen in the entire second half as his henchman pairs up with Amarjeet to do rest of the killing. Worse, one doesn't quite understand who is killing whom and what's the purpose behind that?

So Amarjeet presses the trigger for the first time and just when he gets hold on a fake passport to fly back into India, courtesy Tulip, he decides to skip his flight and return to the mean streets.

By the way, Tulip plays a girl in a dance bar who 'cannot be afforded', as stated by one of her junior colleagues. She sings 'bhojpuri' songs, speaks English, lives in Mauritius, fears a Pakistani don and falls in love with an Indian. A true ambassador of globalisation.

Talking about Mauritius, one needs to give a rap on the knuckles of the person who created that fancy software that plays on Amarjeet's laptop. Mauritius is spelt as 'Muritus' along with at least a couple of more English errors that is embarrassingly displayed on the big screen. Moreover, the film's tagline 'Love Among Gun Shots' isn't syntactically correct either! But then who would have cared about such minor things when there are bigger and far more glaring loopholes in the films.

So what one gets to see is biggest contract killer in the entire globe, Lucky Ali, driving a bike on the streets of Mauritius and firing openly on poor Amarjeet.

If that wasn't heroic enough, he also removes his helmet, proudly flaunts his revolver and keeps searching him on foot even as the entire marketplace makes way for him. He enters people's households and hotel rooms unannounced, kills them in quick successions, always leaves Tulip unscathed and misses his target whenever Amarjeet comes in sight.

However, one chance and Amarjeet shoots him in a split second motion. Quite a feat, especially with a Mauritian super cop, who announces that 'he won't allow gang war to break in his city', is left hardly impressed that a 'common Indian' has managed to do what Interpol couldn't for all these years.

At the end, he turns out to be even more powerful as he knocks down Amarjeet with three (or were they four?) bullets. Well, not bad.

Now if only he would have found him at the airport in the film's beginning itself and done the honours there and then. That would have been some relief for a poor viewer who all this while was thinking of 'running away' from this trash affair.

'Kambakkht Ishq' advance booking opens Sunday

The advance booking for Akshay Kumar's lavishly shot 'Kambakkht Ishq', releasing Friday, is said to have started on Sunday.

This Akshay and Kareena Kapoor starrer will be released by Eros International with 2000 prints across the world, making it one of the widest releases in recent times.

"This would include more than 1400 screens in India and about 600 overseas. It will be a combination of prints and digital format," said the source.

"There's been a massive buzz to boost the film. Also, with the audience getting a chance to go to the multiplexes after a gap of three months, the film is expected to shatter box office collection records," added the source.

Anil Kapoor talks about Priyan touch in SHORTKUT

Even though director Neeraj Vora has written for quite a few Priyadarshan films in the past, Anil Kapoor (who is the producer of SHORTKUT - THE CON IS ON) insists that Neeraj has brought in his own style to the film. For the uninitiated, Neeraj Vora (who in the past has also directed PHIR HERA PHERI and KHILADI 420) has been the common factor amongst 90% of Priyadarshan hits.
''In fact instead of saying that you would see Priyadarshan touch in SHORTKUT - THE CON IS ON, I would rather state that after watching the film you would end up exclaiming that there was a lot of Neeraj in Priyan films'', says Anil Kapoor who claims that he has been a fan of Neeraj's talent ever since he remembers.

''I have been in touch with him for years and it was mainly because of me that Priyan and Neeraj met'', informs Anil Kapoor who is returning to production a couple of years after GANDHI MY FATHER, ''It was more than a decade ago in VIRASAT (1997) when the two met each other. Tinu Anand was supposed to doing his part earlier but later due to some reasons Neeraj came into that role. Call it ironical but after I introduced the two of them, Neeraj and Priyan formed a partnership over all these years though I haven't done a film with Priyan since then.''

In the past, Neeraj Vora has been associated with Priyadarshan in films like HERA PHERI, YEH TERA GHAR YEH MERAA GHAR, HULCHUL, KYUN KI, GARAM MASALA, BHAGAM BHAG and BHOOL BHULAIYAA. Other than SHORTKUT - THE CON IS ON, he is currently also directing RUN BHOLA RUN.

Imran refuses to appear on Salman's show

It seems Imran Khan doesn't hold a high opinion of reality shows. This appears to be the logic behind his refusal to appear on Salman Khan's ongoing show 10 KA DUM.
The actor has left his producers heart broken, who wanted him to appear on the show to promote his film LUCK, but Imran thinks it hardly matters to the films popularity.

Now, it's learnt that Sanjay Dutt and Shruti Hassan will make their presence on the show.

Must say, Imran is acting much pricey than he actually is.

Emraan Hashmi: I learnt from CHOCOLATE experience

Ever since the beginning of his career, Emraan Hashmi has maintained that he prefers working in solo starrers. If at all he has to work in a multi starrer then the script and his role has to be really enticing enough for him to say yes to a project.
No wonder, his repertoire of films since the time he began his career in 2003 reads only two multi starrers (FOOTPATH, CHOCOLATE), while he has worked in multiple solo/two lead protagonists films like RAAZ - THE MYSTERY CONTINUES, AWARAPAN, JANNAT, THE TRAIN, GOOD BOY BAD BOY, DIL DIYA HAI, THE KILLER, GANGSTER, AKSAR, JAWANI DIWANI - A YOUTHFUL RIDE, KALYUG, AASHIQ BANAYA AAPNE, ZEHER, TUMSA NAHIN DEKHA and MURDER.

This is the reason why it comes as a surprise when he goes ahead and signs ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI that has Ajay Devgan towering the film's cast. So what really made him sign a film like this when he has shown clear aversion to multi starrers over the years?

"As I have stated earlier, when I have to work in a two hero project or a multi starrer, it's not just the setup or the script but also my own role in a standalone mode that has to be important enough. This is something that I saw in ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI that boasts of everything as a package that I ever wanted", comes Emraan's reply.

But hadn't he sworn off multi starrers after his not-so-good-experience in CHOCOLATE that had a horde of actors like Anil Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, Suneil Shetty and Arshad Warsi. Reportedly, he was quite unhappy with the entire experience as his role didn't quite come in the fore front and he felt that his character was completely marginalized.

"Well, I learnt from the experience of CHOCOLATE", he chuckles, "I got to know what not to do and read between the lines when a script is narrated to you. I guess I have become much wiser after the CHOCOLATE experience and am much more careful when it comes to choosing work for myself. The way Milan Luthria, the director of ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI, narrated the script and my part to me, I could see that we were making the right progress. I am confident about consenting to do the film being a right move on my part."

Also starring Kangna Ranaut and Prachi Desai as the leading ladies, ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI, which is set in the underworld of the 70s, has just kick started its shooting. Produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor, the film would be released only in 2010.

Abhishek replaces Hrithik

When Karan Johar decided to remake the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Agneepath there was a buzz in Bollywood that Hrithik Roshan will play Big B’s role.

However, things seemed to have changed with the junior Roshan busy with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzarish. Apparently, Hrithik cannot allot dates for the remake and skipped the project.

Meanwhile, Karan is expected to sign up Abhishek Bachchan to play the role that his dad portrayed in Agneepath.

Abhi, who in more than one occasion had stated that Agneepath remains his favorite Bachchan film till date, is expected to lap up the opportunity.

Michael Jackson: The King is Dead…!

The name of Michael Jackson, in spite of all those negative bytes that have gone in his “History”, can never be taken without awe and a ceremonial jaw-drop. There has never been a musical debut that could match Jackson’s.

In the early 1980s, Jackson became the first African-American entertainer to enjoy a massive crossover following on MTV. His music videos—such as “Beat It", "Billie Jean" and Thriller—transformed the face of English pop music, forever. On stage, Jackson electrified his crowd with some signature dance moves such as “the robot” and “the moonwalk”. MJ is considered the beacon-holder for all post-modern hip hop, pop and contemporary R&B artists.

Jackson was one of the few artistes to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, his other achievements include multiple Guinness World Records—including one for "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time"—13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his solo career.

We bow to you, MJ, for all those hours that we spent drooling over your fantabulous tunes. For all those days that were spent mourning your “transgressions”!

As they would say in medieval England, The King is Dead! Long Live The King!

Indian films on terror are often jingoistic: Kabir Khan

Filmmaker Kabir Khan, whose latest venture 'New York' highlights prejudices in the US after the 9/11 attacks, says Indian films made on terrorism are often "jingoistic" but maintains that his take on the issue would provide a balanced view.

"Unfortunately, films on terrorism in our country are often high-pitched and jingoistic. And that's counter-productive. My film, I'd like to believe, is a very balanced view of terrorism," Kabir told us in an interview.

Asked if 26/11 had changed his perception on 9/11, Kabir said: "I don't think 26/11 changed my perception on terrorism or on my film. Though the attack on the Taj and Oberoi (hotels) were the most audacious in Mumbai, what about the foiled attack on our parliament? And more people died in the train explosions of Mumbai."

The filmmaker, whose last film "Kabul Express" also looked at terrorism, said he was fine with many directors making films on the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai as long as they aren't exploitative in nature.

"I'd say a film on terrorism would be exploitative if a filmmaker made a bad film on the events of 26/11. I am aware 36 titles have been registered for films on 26/11. No harm in that as long as they are sincere," he said.

Excerpts from the interview:

Q. How did 26/11 change your perception on 9/11?

A. I don't think 26/11 changed my perception on terrorism or on my film. Though the attack on the Taj and Oberoi were the most audacious in Mumbai, what about the foiled attack on our parliament? And more people died in the train explosions of Mumbai. At the end of the day what do terrorists want? A splash.

Q. So isn't that what you are giving them by making a film on terrorism with three glamorous stars?

A. No. I'd never do something like that. Even when 'Kabul Express' went to the Toronto Film Festival I was asked by Americans why I was siding with the Taliban. All I can say is there's a human face to even the worst political ideology. My loyalty to my country is a given. No one can question that.

I'd say a film on terrorism would be exploitative if a filmmaker made a bad film on the events of 26/11. I am aware 36 titles have been registered for films on 26/11. No harm in that as long as they are sincere. Unfortunately, films on terrorism in our country are often high-pitched and jingoistic. And that's counter-productive. My film, I'd like to believe, is a very balanced view of terrorism.

Q. You bond big time with John Abraham?

A. John brings in an incredible integrity. John agreed to be in 'Kabul Express' even without Yashraj (Films) in the picture. Both John and Arshad Warsi were very supportive."

Q. But there's no Arshad in 'New York'.

A. Arshad and his wife Maria are my family. But Arshad suited no character in 'New York'. I didn't take John, Katrina and Neil for their looks. They play very normal regular people... However, 'New York' catches these good-looking people in a very natural light. If I can have my main characters look glamorous and yet make a realistic film, I see no harm.

John, Neil and Katrina are sex symbols. But they're without make-up and dressed in clothes that any New Yorker can buy off the shelf. No designer wear at all. They're very approachable in the film.

Q. Your style of filmmaking is very different from your producer Yashraj's style?

A. That's true. There were enough directors at Yashraj doing conventional cinema. I'm happy Aditya (Chopra) allowed me to tell the story the way I wanted to do it.

Shekhar Kapur wanted to be India's Simon Cowell

When internationally acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur agreed to judge the reality TV show 'India's Got Talent', he hoped to be the Indian counterpart of American TV show judge Simon Cowell. But soon he discovered that he simply "couldn't be as harsh".

I had never thought about judging a TV reality show. But when this show was offered to me, I thought it could be a chance for me to become India's Simon Cowell. I was excited, but on the second day of the shoot itself my dream was shattered," Kapur told us over phone from Mumbai.

While Cowell is known to be extremely blunt and forthright in criticising contestants on the show's 'American Idol' and 'Britain's Got Talent', Kapur realised he "couldn't be as harsh".

"My interaction with people in India has mostly remained confined to a certain section in urban areas and not so much with people from rural areas. Now when I got a chance to interact with them in whatever little way that I could through the show, I couldn't have hurt their aspirations," he said.

Kapur has made his mark with films like 'Bandit Queen', 'Masoom' and 'Mr. India' and earned international recognition with 'Elizabeth' and 'The Four Feathers'.

He will now be seen on 'India's Got Talent' starting Monday on Colors channel where people will showcase their talents in various fields, be it dancing, singing or acting.

Bollywood actors Sonali Bendre and Kirron Kher will be his co-judges.

Not only has he witnessed a mélange of unique talent on the show, he is also hopeful of using some of them in his future films.

"I have come across some amazing composers who create fusion music. I also met some rap and hip-hop artists. But I was really impressed with performers from Orissa who dress like Krishna and perform something that looks like as if it's come right from the popular 'Broadway' musicals - their performance is amazing. I am quite inspired by these artists and might use some of them in my movies," Kapur said in an excited tone.

Besides the show, Kapur is also keeping busy with his movie projects.

While his much-awaited 'Paani' in collaboration with Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle is currently in its last stage, Kapur is also excited about short films.

"I just finished three short films. I feel they are very exciting as a format. In 12-20 minutes you say what you want to and then these short films are also finding huge audiences everywhere.

"Looking at it practically, it takes one-and-a-half to two years to make a feature film and by the time you are ready to release it, either you or the subject becomes outdated. So I am enjoying doing short films," he said.

Kapur is also in discussions for a few Hollywood projects. However, he refrains from talking about that as he is under contract until December.

Is Bollywood too late on 9/11 movies?

Hollywood has highlighted it, so have others. But the Hindi film industry has barely touched upon 9/11 as a theme, with Kabir Khan's 'New York' coming eight years after the tragic incident in the US.

Experts say it is too "late" to make a film on the subject even as the film is set to be released on Friday.

" 'New York' is belated...it has been nearly eight years since the incident happened. The Mumbai film industry is very late in reacting to this kind of a storyline...The topicality of such a theme is lost because of the delay," film historian Gautam Kaul told us.

Film critic Omar Qureshi said the same.

"India is a little late on this. Hollywood (the US) and other countries have already made movies on 9/11. Indian filmmakers did pass a thought that they should do it but did not because it was too sensitive for them to handle," he said.

"Everyone here got a shock after the 26/11 attacks and it triggered reactions. Everything became very sensitive then on, which is exactly what happened to the world after 9/11 and they (Indian filmmakers) realised that this is one story to be told," he added.

Starring John Abraham, Katrina Kaif, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Irrfan Khan, 'New York' can be called Bollywood's rare full-fledged attempt at dealing with the subject.

Hollywood has kept drawing references from the tragedy and showcased it in documentaries and feature films like 'Fahrenheit 9/11' (2004), 'Inside 9/11' (2005), 'World Trade Center' (2006), 'United 93' (2006) and 'Reign Over Me' (2007), to name a few.

In 2004, US-based Indian filmmaker Haider Bilgrami made 'Bandhak', about a professional who is killed by a racist following the World Trade Center attack. His brother Baldev, in a frenzy of revenge, takes a white man hostage.

In 2007, Pakistani director Shoaib Mansoor made a mark on the global scene with his first feature film 'Khuda Kay Liye', which was based on the same subject.

In the same year, veteran Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah touched upon the subject in his directorial debut 'Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota' but his story revolved around a group of people from India on board the flights that crashed into the World Trade Center.

It was followed up by Vishesh Films' 'Dhokha', about a Muslim protagonist whose relationship comes to a grinding halt courtesy the repercussions of the attacks.

Both films were box office duds. Well-known filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt feels 'Dhokha' failed because it had new faces.

"'Dhokha' had 9/11 as a background but it did not do well because it had new people... and now that a commercial film ('New York') has come after eight years with an A-list star cast, everyone is noticing the theme," said Bhatt over telephone from Mumbai.

Commenting on the lack of Bollywood films on the theme, Bhatt said: "The images of the twin towers being attacked by the planes have kind of become the defining images of the 21st century but Indian filmmakers don't deal with social realities.

"They like to lock themselves up only in light matters like that of the heart. A matter of political turmoil is not a Bollywood filmmakers' cup of tea," he said.

Apart from 'New York', Karan Johar's upcoming 'My Name Is Khan' is also on the same subject.

The film is about a Muslim (Shah Rukh Khan) who suffers from Asperger syndrome, a form of autism which impacts social interaction abilities and he is arrested as a suspected terrorist in post-9/11 Los Angeles after the authorities mistake his disability for suspicious behaviour.

Also starring Kajol, the film is scheduled for 2010 release, almost a decade after the 9/11 tragedy. The box office performance of 'New York' could be a pointer to how well the subject will be received.

Big crowd gathers to see Deepika Padukone in capital

Braving the heat, hundreds of onlookers thronged the capital's Connaught Place area on Thursday to catch a glimpse of Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, who came to launch a new boutique of Swiss watch brand Tissot and its new range of watches.

The pressure of the crowd, who waited for almost an hour in the extreme heat to see the 23-year-old actress, was so much that even the elaborate flower decorations outside the store, came off the poles.

"I got to know that Deepika is coming to this shop. So I was waiting to catch a glimpse of her, but when she arrived the place got so jam-packed that I could not even see her face," said 18-year-old Anushka, who stood outside the store with two of her friends.

The crowd nearly broke into a stampede when the actress, wearing a short green dress, stepped in. However, neither few of the media persons inside the store nor most of the fans outside could see her well.

"I am here to cover the event but for a minute I thought that I would get crushed or suffocated due to the crowd," said a news channel reporter.

Deepika, who did not stay at the venue for more than 20 minutes, spoke about the new collection -Sea-Touch by Tissot besides taking a few questions about her forthcoming film 'Love Aaj Kal'.

"'Love Aaj Kal' is an out and out romantic film. It talks about relations of the earlier times and relationships today. It talks of love that used to be and love that is today. It is a complete family film. I just hope that it does well since it is a great film and very special to me," she said.

'Love Aaj Kal' also stars Saif Ali Khan and has been directed by Imtiaz Ali of 'Jab We Met' fame.

Now, Monica Bedi takes to devotional singing

Having seen the glamour of the tinsel town, the harsh existence behind prison walls and the 'make-believe' world of reality shows, former starlet Monica Bedi is all set to don a new role - that of a devotional singer.

Bedi, whose family originally hails from Chhabewal village near Hoshiarpur town in Punjab, 130 km from here, chose this place Wednesday to announce the release of her first album of Sikh devotional music.

The music album has been launched by Universal Music.

The album comprises her renditions of the "Mool Mantra" and passages from the Sikh religious compilation "Japji Sahib" in a musical background.

Strictly talking only about the album and refusing to speak even a word on her controversial past life with jailed gangster and extortionist Abu Salem, Bedi said that she had forgotten the past and was "looking ahead".

Bedi claimed that she had some Bollywood offers in the pipeline after her stint with reality shows 'Big Boss' and 'Jhalak Dikhla Jaa'.

'Love Aaj Kal' has peppy, soulful numbers

After the hit score of 'Jab We Met', director Imtiaz Ali has collaborated with Pritam yet again for the music of Saif Ali Khan's production debut 'Love Aaj Kal'. Pritam has left no stone unturned in creating soulful melodies.

Music Review

The film that stars Saif and Deepika Padukone has seven originals and three remixes in the soundtrack.

"Aahun aahun", which has an electrifying start with the strumming of the guitar, is an amalgamation of a hit Punjabi pop song by singer Jazzy B and the Hindi song composed by Pritam. Sung by Neeraj Shridhar, the song keeps juggling between the two genres and is very entertaining. It sets the mood by mixing both Indian and western influences. "Aahun aahun" will surely be a hit.

The number also has a remixed version, which will become a favourite on the DJ consoles.

Up next is a beautiful rendition in Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's voice. "Aaj din chadeyya" starts with a small alaap. A romantic song that is extremely soothing to the ears, "Aaj din..." strikes a chord with the listeners. The song has a feel-good factor.

With brilliant vocals by Sunidhi Chauhan and Neeraj Sridhar, the next song "Chor bazari" starts with foot-tapping, peppy music. The lyrics are not the highlight of the song, but the number has the potential to impress music buffs.

This too has a remixed version, which is quite average.

KK makes his presence felt with fast-paced song "Main kya hoon", which is enhanced by electronic and psychedelic beats.

With the next song "Thoda thoda pyar", the Punjabi flavour takes precedence. Sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, it has a folk touch to it in places. But it might not go on to become a chartbuster.

Neeraj Sridhar returns with "Twist", which is intermingled with the song "Ek pardesi mera dil le gaya" from the 1958 film 'Phagun'. It's a dance number that is high on beats.

The remixed version, however, is better than the original.

Finally we have Mohit Chauhan crooning the song "Ye dooriyan". The song is just about passes muster, but Mohit's vocals are the highlight.

On the whole, Pritam has done a good job with the soundtrack and created songs that are sure to become hits.

Michael Jackson, the 'King of Pop,' dies at age 50

Michael Jackson, the sensationally gifted child star who rose to become the "King of Pop" and the biggest celebrity in the world only to fall from his throne in a freakish series of scandals, died Thursday. He was 50.

Jackson died at UCLA Medical Center after being stricken at his rented home in Holmby Hills. Paramedics tried to resuscitate him at his home for nearly three-quarters of an hour, then rushed him to the hospital, where doctors continued to work on him.

"It is believed he suffered cardiac arrest in his home. However, the cause of his death is unknown until results of the autopsy are known," his brother Jermaine said. Police said they were investigating, standard procedure in high-profile cases.

Jackson was not breathing when Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to a call at his Los Angeles home about 12:30 p.m., Capt. Steve Ruda told the Los Angeles Times. The paramedics performed CPR and took him to the hospital, Ruda told the newspaper.

Jackson's death brought a tragic end to a long, bizarre, sometimes farcical decline from his peak in the 1980s, when he was popular music's premier all-around performer, a uniter of black and white music who shattered the race barrier on MTV, dominated the charts and dazzled even more on stage.

His 1982 album "Thriller" — which included the blockbuster hits "Beat It," "Billie Jean" and "Thriller" — is the best-selling album of all time, with an estimated 50 million copies sold worldwide.

The public first knew him in the late 1960s, when as a boy he was the precocious, spinning lead singer of the Jackson 5, the music group he formed with his four older brothers. Among their No. 1 hits were "I Want You Back," "ABC," and "I'll Be There."

He was perhaps the most exciting performer of his generation, known for his feverish, crotch-grabbing dance moves and his high-pitched voice punctuated with squeals and titters. His single sequined glove, tight, military-style jacket and aviator sunglasses were trademarks second only to his ever-changing, surgically altered appearance.

"For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words," said Quincy Jones, who produced "Thriller." "He was the consummate entertainer and his contributions and legacy will be felt upon the world forever. I've lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him."

Jackson ranked alongside Elvis Presley and the Beatles as the biggest pop sensations of all time. He united two of music's biggest names when he was briefly married to Presley's daughter, Lisa Marie, and Jackson's death immediately evoked that of Presley himself, who died at age 42 in 1977.

As years went by, Jackson became an increasingly freakish figure — a middle-aged man-child weirdly out of touch with grown-up life. His skin became lighter, his nose narrower, and he spoke in a breathy, girlish voice. He surrounded himself with children at his Neverland ranch, often wore a germ mask while traveling and kept a pet chimpanzee named Bubbles as one of his closest companions.

Ash should have got IIFA award for 'Jodhaa Akbar': Jaya

Priyanka Chopra is a "good actress" but daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai was more deserving of the best actress award for her work in 'Jodhaa Akbar' at the 10th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) (awards) in Macau, says Jaya Bachchan.

"For all I know she must be really good in 'Fashion'. I haven't seen it. But I've seen Priyanka's work in 'Dostana' and liked it. She's undoubtedly a good actress," Jaya told us.

"I don't have any objection to her winning the award at IIFA. But I wonder why Aishwarya's fine performance was ignored. I think she and the 'Jodhaa Akbar' cinematographer Kiran Deohans richly deserved recognition for their work," she added.

A lot has been said and written about 'Jodhaa Akbar' director Ashutosh Gowariker's comments on Priyanka not deserving the best actress award for her performance in 'Fashion' at the IIFA.

While most sections of the industry have come forward to deride Gowariker for what they see as his childish and impulsive outburst, the one aspect of his criticism against the IIFA jury awarding Priyanka and not Aishwarya that has raised eyebrows is his mention of Jaya on stage to substantiate his public objection.

"Priyanka, you are a very hardworking actress but I was just discussing with Jayaji why Aishwarya did not get the best actress award," Gowariker said when he came on stage to collect best director award for 'Jodhaa Akbar' from Jaya, Abhishek and Aishwarya.

Surprisingly, Jaya not only stands up for Gowariker, but also gives him a clean chit for mentioning her in his speech.

"First of all it is being presumed that Ashutosh unnecessarily mentioned my name regarding Aishwarya's omission from the awards. The fact is, I suggested he bring up the question on stage at IIFA. We were discussing why Aishwarya has not been given any award for 'Jodhaa Akbar' and I suggested Ashutosh bring up the matter. So when he mentioned my name, he wasn't doing anything wrong," she said.

Commenting on Aishwarya's performance in the film, she said: "The entire principal cast and crew of 'Jodhaa Akbar' have been rightly nominated for the popular awards and have won also. I find it very strange that Aishwarya, who lived her part and looked every inch the royal Rajasthani queen in her body language and overall performance, was ignored."
