Shahid Kapur falls very easily into the typical Hindi film hero mould. He is fair and has those chocolate boy looks. Even the roles that the young hero has been doing so far, have only gone ahead and reinforced that image. But his fans and moviemakers might be in for a surprise when they watch him in Vishal Bharadwaj's Kaminey.
The film is expected to do for him what Omkara did for Saif Ali Khan, whose Tygai Langda was an eye opener for all. So far in his career, Shahid has played the traditional hero in various avatars but has really never been stretched as an actor. But with his role in Bhaaradwaj's movie, one should finally see him push the envelope and reveal a new facet to his acting prowess. Kaminey has not yet released but the promos definitely look very promising. And one would not be very far from the truth if one says that the movie will be like a coming of age film for Shahid the actor. He will be doing more than just looking sweet and romancing the girl. While Imtiaz Ali's Jab We Met gave him commercial success, Vishal Bharadwaj's Kaminey is likely to be an acid test for him as an actor. It's a test which the likes of Saif have passed with flying colours before him. Now the spotlight will be on Shahid and not his fantastic dancing moves and cutesy looks. One is sure that the actor will pass the test with flying colour. After all, he does have one thing going in his favour, and that his acting genes. Afterall, he is the son of Pankaj Kapur and Neelima Azim. Pankaj needs no introduction as being one if the finest actors that he have around. Neelima is a fine actress herself but has suffered due to a lack of opportunities and the fact that very few roles are written for women in our films. So here's wishing Shahid all the best for his future.
