There was a time when Farhan Akhtar seemed very keen to make a sequel to his 2006 film, Don, which itself was a remake of Chandra Barots's film which went by the same name. Shah Rukh Khan was expected to play the lead in the sequel as well.
But Farhan's enthusiasm seems to have waned somewhat. Ever since he launched himself as an actor with Abhishek Kapoor's Rock On and followed it up with sister Zoya Akhtar's Luck By Chance, his focus seems to have shifted somewhat. Suddenly, Farhan the actor is all over the place and the director in him seems to have taken a backseat. Currently, Farhan is working on Karthik Calling Karthik. So even though the script of Don 2 is ready, the director is missing. In fact, even SRK is ready to allot dates for the film. He was very keen that the film should be completed this year. As things stand now, SRK will probably have no film release this year, something that has not happened to him in a long time. His film, My Name is Khan has bee pushed to next year. Next year, his dates will be shared between Farah Khan for Happy New Year and Anubhav Sinha's Ra1. According to Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan's partner in Excel Entertainment, they would be starting the Don sequel shooting only in 2010. The film will be shot entirely in Berlin and will be readied for a release in 2011.
