Deepika Padukone most searched on Yahoo

Deepika Padukone is the most searched celebrity on Yahoo! India Search in 2008

Chandni Chowk to China might have fizzled out, but it’s a safe bet that its heroine has made her way into audience’s hearts. The proof of the fact lies in the survey results released by Yahoo that put Bangalore girl Deepika Padukone as the most searched celebrity on Yahoo! India Search in 2008. The actress has surpassed Shilpa Shetty, Aishwarya Rai and Kareena Kapoor, in that order.

Among the top people and entertainment searches, Deepika has emerged a clear winner. “It’s a great feeling to know that I am the most ‘Yahoo’ed person in 2008. It’s extremely encouraging and humbling at the same time. In fact, it’s quite inspiring. I guess the factors are manifold; it’s a bit of everything — popularity, sex appeal and films. Moreover, people are interested in knowing what I am working on at that moment,” she says.

Point out to her the fact that she has surpassed all the other celebrities to become the topper, and pat comes the reply. “It’s all part of a healthy competition. I don’t try to compare myself with anybody. However, such online surveys help one in improving oneself.”

Rooting for Deepika, Prasad Bidappa says, “Deepika is undoubtedly one of India’s most beautiful women who has matured into the definitive sex symbol of her generation of actors. I am not surprised the world is looking her up on Yahoo.”

“Deepika is undoubtedly the youth icon,” says director Indrajit Lankesh who launched her in Sandalwood. “She is beautiful and has got oodles of attitude and talent. Many youngsters consider her as a role model. A keen observer, she’s never shy of displaying the right demeanour and onscreen presence. And, not to mention her cool temperament. Very few Indian actresses have all these essentials rolled into one,” adds Indrajit.

Ask Anisha Padukone, Deepika’s sister about the feat, and she says, “I guess the majority of Yahoo searchers are youngsters, especially techies. And, many of them look up to someone who is young and successful like Deepika.”
