
AR Rahman requested music lovers not to compare his music with that of other musicians. "You should desist from creating hatred between musicians. Please don't degrade the music of others," he said. The maestro was speaking at a function organised by the Cine Musicians Union (CMU) in Chennai to honour him.
The humble genius went on to say that he had collected the award on behalf of all the Indian musicians and that the award belonged to everybody.
Though great composers such as Naushad, Ilayaraja, M.S Viswanathan, Madan Mohan and others did not get the awards, they had the love of the people, which was greater than the Oscars, said Rahman.
Carnatic musician Balamurali Krishna, the chief guest said that the Oscars was a recognition of Rahman’s musical creativity and hard work. Ilayaraja said that Rahman was a phenomenal musician.
K Balachander, who introduced Rahman in 'Roja', said that when other music composers make castles with their music, Rahman builds monuments.
Shankar Ganesh, Deva, Srikanth Deva Yuvanshankar Raja, Karthik Raja, Vijay Anthony, D Imman, T M Soundararajan, L R Eswari, Karthi, Chinmayi, Thippu, Chitra, Swarnalatha, Mano and drummer Shivamani were among those present.
