A debut in one of the most raved about films of 2008 Rock On!! and some acclaim later, anyone would have thought that life has transformed for Prachi Desai. The actress, however, says that things have become tougher. “I have to start from scratch again,” she giggles. “It’s a different field and I have had to start all over again.”
After a rocking New Year celebration with friends in Goa, she finally admits that she has signed her next film Life Partner opposite Tusshar Kapoor. “I have been keeping hush about it because its release is far from near. In fact, I’m not willing to talk about the character too,” she giggles, yet again. The film also stars Genelia D’Souza, Fardeen Khan and Govinda. But Prachi has no qualms about doing another multi starrer. “I want to do something different. These days it doesn’t matter if you are playing the lead or sharing screen space with many actors. It is the role that matters,” she says. “I took on this film simply because it’s an Abbas Mustan production.”
Prachi recently won the best debut award at Anand Lok Star Puraskar and the Sabsey Favourite New Heroine at Star Gold’s Sabsey Favourite Kaun award and says that winning an award is special and made her very happy. “It is very encouraging and I am ecstatic,” she says.
Many talked-about debuts in bollywood this year [Anushka Sharma, Asin, Adah Sharma]...I don’t give her a feel of competition. That, she feels is everywhere. “Competition was there in TV, too. Everyday thousands of people come to Mumbai wanting to become actors. You can never be the only one,” she says.
The actress who was noticed for her performance in Kasam Se, we thought, would now ask filmmakers to look more towards TV than modelling — when looking for a fresh face. But she has a different take. “Actors on TV are quite old. In fact, most of them have older screen image too. I was lucky because age is on my side. That is a big advantage,” she says. “If filmmakers want the kind of characters that are doing well, they will obviously look towards modelling.”
