DELHI 6 on shaky grounds after negative word of mouth

Joginder Tuteja, Bollywood Trade News Network

What could possibly have been the saviour of Bollywood in the first quarter of 2009 seems to be heading towards adding to the woes of the industry. In a year that has seen much hyped films failing to bring in good moolah [CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, LUCK BY CHANCE, BILLU BARBER], DELHI 6 appears to be yet another unwelcome addition to the heap.
The film opened to an average response on Friday and collections over the weekend haven't been too heartening either. In fact such poor has been word of mouth around the film that it seems all set to see a massive crash as the week progresses. Audience has been heard complaining about the narrative which is neither engaging nor entertaining, hence making DELHI 6 an absolutely disappointing, pointless and self-indulgent exercise.

Mounted on a huge budget, the film required good moolah coming its way in the first week itself and was hence released on a huge number of prints (~1000). However, such huge release hasn't helped the film's prospects either since there has been a general lack of interest witnessed amongst the audience. There are jokes floating all around amongst the industry insiders as well as 'aam junta' about DELHI 6 and result is an all around negativity for this film which is yet another disappointing outing for the movie buffs.

Though there isn't any major release for the entire month of March, it would still need a miracle for DELHI 6 to survive all the backlash coming its way. First week's collections would tell the tale and the start of second weekend would decide the eventual fortune of DELHI 6 which is widely being termed as nothing but a 'monkey business'!
