The theatrical promos of Vishal Bhardwaj's KAMINEY, included in the prints of DELHI 6, is creating quite a buzz and one person who is getting the maximum eyeballs is (no, its not oomph gal, Priyanka or heartthrob Shahid) Amol Gupte. Yes, the acclaimed writer of Aamir Khan's directorial debut venture, TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, is essaying the role of a bad man whose name is Sunil 'Chopper' Bhope. He is a gangster who wants to become a politician and plays Priyanka's elder brother in the film. It was a real surprise to see the kind hearted Amol, who is a messiah for dyslexic children in real life, play a baddie with such conviction in the teasers. He looks part of the character and has quite a scary appearance in the film.
However, this is not for the first time that Amol has tried his hands at acting. In fact, Amol has done Ketan Mehta's HOLI and MIRCH MASALA and has acted in over a hundred movies produced by FTII (Film and Television Institute of India). No wonder he seems so adept at acting. Amol too is quite happy to work after a long time and says that the acting stint had refreshed him and helped him get rid of the anxieties and controversies of the recent past.
Well, we are all looking forward to Amol's surprise baddie act in KAMINEY, when it releases later this year in June.
